4chan creator Chris Poole, aka “Moot,” will be taking his talents to Mountain View, California.

Engadget reports that search engine giant Google has just hired Poole after being impressed by his 12 years of experience with “building online communities.”

There’s no report on the reasons why Google hired the creator of 4chan, but there is speculation that he may have come on board to help restructure Google’s subpar social sharing service Google+.

In another report by Engadget , Google expains their new spin on their social sharing service. After adhering to user feedback, Google decided to reinvent Google+ social media site based on two main components: communities and collections.

And whom better for Google to entrust with such the arduous task of rebooting Google+ than the creator of the top community sharing board 4chan?

What is 4chan and what was the creator’s motive for joining Google?

In case you’ve never “lurked” on 4chan, according to its creator, it is a simple image-based bulletin board where anyone can post comments and share images under the emphasis of anonymity.

Every board on 4chan is dedicated to various topics, from video games to music and pop culture and, of course, Japanese animation and culture.

4chan was created with inspiration by “2channel,” a Japanese community-based website where users primarily shared anime, manga, and other aspects of Japanese culture. Daily Dot reports that everything has become full circle, as the creator of 4chan, “ Moot,” sold his website back to the very site that inspired 4chan to begin with.

4chan was established by Poole as a place where anyone could share anything they’re interested in, which is what Google+ is trying to achieve. The key difference between the two is the aspect of guaranteed anonymity when posting on a 4chan board.

By doing this, the creators of 4chan have granted many users access to share their thoughts and creative freedom, as there are media-related boards.

In fact, 4chan has inadvertently given birth to Anonymous, a group of social activist hackers, or “hacktivists,” responsible for such online movements like “OP KKK,” where ousted KKK members were “de-hooded” on Pastebin .

According to KnowYourMeme.com, users of 4chan have also created and popularized some of the most widely recognized memes we see today, including “LOL Cats/Caturday” that everyone loves so much.

4chan also claims credit for YouTube sensations like “Chocolate Rain” singer Tay Zonday and re-popularizing aging celebs like Rick Astley.

On the downside, the anonymity factor has also served as the hotbed for lovers of gore, pedophiles, racists, and misogynists to express their beliefs, particularly on the seedy underbelly of the website /b/ — the board which is riddled with “trolls trolling trolls.”

Is the creator of 4chan simply the father of the website who let some of his children get out of control, or did he partake in cultivating some of the ugliness that is on 4chan?

More importantly, has Google hired a monster?

Nevertheless, the 4chan creator expressed his gratitude on his blog .

“Today I’m excited to announce that I’ve joined Google. When meeting with current and former Googlers, I continually find myself drawn to their intelligence, passion, and enthusiasm — as well as a universal desire to share it with others. I’m also impressed by Google’s commitment to enabling these same talented people to tackle some of the world’s most interesting and important problems. I can’t wait to contribute my own experience from a dozen years of building online communities, and to begin the next chapter of my career at such an incredible company.”

What do you think Chris’ creative role at Google will be? Can he really turn Google+ around? Do you think that the creator of 4chan will implement the worst components of 4chan to the prestigious Google?
