Elon Musk fears that the human race is heading towards a “population collapse” if drastic measures aren’t taken. The billionaire has always spoken up for the pro-natalist movement. Here’s what the tech CEO’s solution to avoid a population collapse is.
Musk recently took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to urge people to have more children. In a post, he wrote how “people who have kids do need to have 3 kids to make up for those who have 0 or 1.” If the solution isn’t seen through, the population will surely “collapse.”

The Tesla CEO’s post was in response to a study entrepreneur Mario Nawfal shared on the platform. The study revealed that scientists estimate every woman to have 2.7 children to avoid population collapse.
“Scientists now say 2.1 kids per woman won’t cut it – 2.7 is the real number needed to avoid long-term extinction,” Nawfal wrote in the post. He went on to note that the U.S. currently shows 1.66 per woman. The data comes from a study conducted by Fortune.
Elon has been a loyal supporter of the pronatalist movement. The billionaire has spoken about the need for people to have more children over and over again. He has previously spoken about how Europe’s declining fertility rate has made “population collapse … a certainty.”

In March, he also spoke about how the declining birth rate makes him anxious enough to keep him “awake at night.” Musk has previously spoken about how the declining birth rate will negatively affect economic growth, innovation, and the advancement of the human race.
“Instead of teaching fear of pregnancy, we should teach fear of childlessness,” Musk suggested. He went on to call the declining birth rates the “biggest danger civilization faces.”
The Trump administration’s values seem to align with Musk’s, considering the executive order the President has signed. The executive order titled ‘Expanding Access to In Vitro Fertilization’ focuses on “family formation.” The order also notes how crucial it is for the country’s national policy to make it “easier for loving and longing” couples to have children.
The pro-natalism movement is being advocated for by the Republicans, given the all-time low fertility rate. CDC reveals that America’s fertility was recorded at a historical low in 2024. The International Monetary Fund also links a lower birth rate to labor shortages and higher pension costs.

“The birth rate is very low in almost every country. And unless that changes, civilization will disappear,” Musk noted in March. Musk himself is a father of 13 children. He shares twins Vivian and Griffin with his first wife, Justine Wilson. Wilson also gave birth to the billionaire’s triplets, Kai, Saxon, and Damian.
Musk shares X Æ A-12, Techno Mechanicus, and Exa Dark Sideræl with Grimes. Shivon Zillis is the mother of Tesla CEO’s son, Strider, and daughter, Azure. Musk and Zillis are also co-parents to Arcadia and Seldon Lycurgus. The tech billionaire shares son Romulus with author Ashley St. Clair.
