‘Downton Abbey’: Michelle Dockery Misses Co-Star Dan Stevens

Downton Abbey is getting ready to premiere Season 4 in the UK soon, but one of the stars of the show, Michelle Dockery, is missing her co-star, Dan Stevens.

As you all know by now, Dan Stevens left the period drama to pursue greener pastures after Season 3, and the way in which he was sent off was less than tactful.

Matthew Crawley was killed moments after meeting his and Lady Mary Crawley’s (Michelle Dockery) newborn son. This caused outrage in the fandom, who protested loudly at the unceremonious departure.

Making matters worse, the US doesn’t get the series until January, almost four months later, and with social media it’s next to impossible to prevent spoilers from leaking online.

But fans won’t be the only ones missing Cousin Mathew in Season 4, Michelle Dockery says that she does too.

“I’m not mourning Dan like lady Mary is for her husband,” the Downton Abbey star said. “But I do miss him. We had become close and it has seemed strange without him.”

The actress says that after spending so much time together filming the miniseries, they become close and she is feeling the absence of Stevens and another departed cast member, Jessica Brown-Findlay, who played her sister Lady Sybil and died after childbirth, just a few episodes before the shocking death of Matthew.

Both actors decided to pursue other opportunities and were not obligated to continue with the show.

“Of course, I would have loved Dan to have stayed, but there does come a point where you have to make decisions about your career and what you want to do. We’d all signed up initially for three series of Downton , so the time was right for him to make his move.” Dockery added.

Downton Abbey premieres on ITV1 in the UK this coming Sunday, September 22.
