Get ready for another Facebook redesign.
The company sent out press invitations to check out a “new look for the News Feed” next Thursday, March 7, at the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
Facebook didn’t elaborate on the changes, but that didn’t stop tech sites from speculating what a redesign might entail.
Last month, TechCrunch ‘s Josh Constine said he got a first-hand look at the employee-only iOS Facebook app , which favored full screen photo tiles and overlaid text for the mobile news feed. He said the new look was “reminiscent of Flipboard, Google+ for iPad, and Microsoft Metro.”
Costine also noted that the Facebook app in general, and the News Feed in particular, has largely remained the same for the last three and a half years, and that it’s time for a new look.
ReadWrite reports that the company is testing a redesigned Timeline in New Zealand . Based on their look, the new Timeline features friends, pictures, Likes, interests, and notes organized in a column down the left side. Status updates are also organized into a column on the right, where sponsored advertisements are currently posted.
The company will collect user feedback and data from these tests and then tweak the design before making the change official for its billion plus users.
Facebook redesigned a feature just last month, when it introduced bigger icons and more ways to view data on the site . Graph Search is used to find specific information from a user’s account, but is currentl only available to a limited number of users in beta form. There is a waiting list for users who want to try out the new feature.
