Google Updates Youtube for Apple Users

With Google and Apple being the creators of competing smartphone operating systems, you wouldn’t think they would play together nicely. However, users of Android and iPhone both prefer YouTube as one of the most versatile user-generated video hosting sites available. Here’s hoping Blip follows suit, since they have some great content of their own, but that’s not the point of this article.

Google recently updated their YouTube application for iOS, adding native support for the latest Apple products and settling a possible uproar among iPhone, iPad and AirPlay users.

Initially Apple had removed support for the native YouTube app prior to the official public release of iOS 6. It wasn’t until the final stages that iOS 6 would support the YouTube application. Google later released the YouTube app in the iPhone’s App Store, without support for the iPad, according to Mac Rumors .

Now, the YouTube app finally supports the iPad’s larger screen and plays within the page.

Did you get all that?

The updated YouTube app also takes advantage of the iPhone 5’s four inch screen, playing fullscreen as opposed to the letterboxed format of the past. With enhanced AirPlay support, videos will come through to a user’s TV much more clearly.

Wait, wasn’t letterbox the new standard, with fullscreen being phased out? I’m confused.

Currently, when streaming YouTube, they can be very glitchy and are usually not synced up with Apple’s devices, playing ahead of the television. This update has made the YouTube app more universally accessible, increasing usability, says Touch Reviews . The update is now available through iTunes or the App Store.

Now if you’re living in New York, you might want to keep a close eye on your Apple device…
