Ellen DeGeneres has steadfastly denied divorce reports, and after hosting the 2014 Academy Awards she and Portia de Rossi did their best to squash those rumors personally.
The couple made an appearance at the Vanity Fair post-Oscars party, getting close and appearing to show no marital stress as paparazzi snapped pictures. Though some speculate that Ellen DeGeneres and Porti de Rossi may have just been putting in a show, the rumors of their divorce still persist.
Last week, Ellen was seen having a date with a “mystery woman,” though the two have not been linked romantically and the woman’s identity was not discerned.
The celebrity rumor blog CelebDirtyLaundry has speculated often on the couple’s supposed split, saying that Ellen may have orchestrated the date on purpose to get Portia de Rossi to notice.
But as Justin Timberlake has proven, mystery dates are not always what they seem. Last year the singer was spotted with a “mystery blonde” that led to speculation he was cheating on Jessica Biel. He later cleared up the rumors to clarify that the mystery woman was in fact his cousin, who was visiting him in Los Angeles.
Ellen has also spoken to several different news outlets to put an end to the divorce rumors, saying that she and Portia are still madly in love.
Earlier this year, Ellen told People magazine:
“The truth is, and this is corny, I fall more in love with Portia all the time. I really do. She surprises me all the time,” she said. “It’s what anyone experiences when you find that person that gets you, wants to take care of you, wants the best for you. We’re really lucky because we know how rare it is.”
But while Ellen DeGeneres still faces divorce rumors, on Sunday she was able to bask in what was a memorable hosting job. Though she was relatively gentle with the celebrities in attendance — especially compared to past hosts like Ricky Gervais — she did have some big moments like ordering pizza for the A-listers in attendance and taking a selfie that shattered the Twitter record for re-tweets.
