Jean-Claude Van Damme has seen his viral video where he does a split between two Volvo trucks imitated many times before, but now the spoof has taken on a political tint.
A new parody of the famous Van Damme video has emerged from the Gaza Strip , aimed at showing the world just how dire life has become for people living there.
Like in the Jean-Claude Van Damme video, this one starts with the camera close on a man’s face holding a solemn expression. The camera slowly pans back to show him balanced between two cars, while a voiceover talks of the woes people living in Gaza face every day.
As viewers seem more of the screen, they find that the cars are actually being pushed down the road, and the narrators says, “Still, Van Damme isn’t better than me,” adding “unfortunately, there is no gas in town.”
Gaza has seen chronic fuel shortages since a blockage was imposed in 2007, when the military group Hamas rose to power. Last year’s coup in Egypt has worsened the situation, with a blockade on the smuggling tunnels that had been used to bring scant amounts of fuel to the territory.
Though this may be the most political one yet, the Gaza Strip video is far from the only parody of the Jean-Claude Van Damme Volvo commercial . In fact, one released just this week with a digital version of Chuck Norris has had success rivaling the original version.
In the Chuck Norris parody , the 73-year-old actor, or at least a CGI version of him, is seen balancing between two airplanes while 11 service members stand perched atop his head in the shape of a Christmas tree. At the end of the video the men light up, and the message “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” flashes above them.
The Chuck Norris video already has more than 9 million views in just three days, but it has a lot of ground to make up — Jean-Claude Van Damme has more than 62 million views on his video.
