Avril Lavigne worked with a number of people to bring her latest musical creation to life. One person who helped out with the new album was shock rocker Marilyn Manson.

So how does a Canadian pop singer hook up with someone like Brian Warner? During her recent conversation with Elle magazine, Lavigne discussed how this unusual collaboration came about. It’s a lot more casual and run-of-the-mill than you might think.

Instead of meeting with agents or managers, Avril Lavigne decided to do something incredibly normal. She simply picked up the phone and shot Manson a text. Apparently that’s just how the “17” singer rolls.

“I wrote [the new song, “ Bad Girl “] and [producer] David [Hodges] and I were listening to it one day, just us because Chad had gone on tour. I looked over at David and I was like “Oh my god, Manson would be awesome on this track!” So I texted him and he came over. It just worked out perfectly!” Lavigne explained.

She continued, “It was midnight. I was like, ‘Hey, I’ve got this song. I’m in the studio. I’m in L.A.’ He’s like, ‘Hey, I’ll be there at 4 am.’ So he gets there at like 4:30 am. I’m like, ‘Hey buddy. It’s been awhile.’ We go back. He played me some of his new stuff.”

Avril Lavigne said that Marilyn Manson went into the booth and laid down his part “like a pro.” In her humble opinion, the song instantly took on a brand new life. The rest, as they say, is collaborative history. The album is out right now, if you’re at all curious.

In a separate interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette , Lavigne explained how the tune “ Here’s to Never Growing Up ” came about. According to the singer, she simply went through a list of the bands she loves to listen to. This apparently includes a lot of Radiohead.

“I listened to Radiohead for probably 13 years. I have all their CDs. I like Radiohead and I like Coldplay, and I like listening to their music when I’m at home, something that’s on in the background that’s consistent. It has good mood. It’s relaxing,” Lavigne told the publication.

The singer added, “So, when we were looking for the perfect band, of course, it had to be the appropriate amount of syllables for that section of the song, which is four, and Radiohead was the first band that kind of came up.”
