Donald Trump was in a jovial mood when he took to the podium for his Easter lunch speech at the White House on Wednesday. The President looked for JD Vance in the audience while making a quip about Vance’s weight-loss journey.

“Is JD here? Where is JD?” he asks, and then spots Vance. Trump then states, “He’s lost weight.”  Trump continued, “He got a little thinner. And I’m looking for a heavy-set gentleman. And now I find a perfect-looking specimen.”

The President then gave him a brief job performance review, telling everyone that “he’s doing a great job” and that he was working on a deal. Trump said that if the deal doesn’t happen, he would blame it on the vice president, but if it is successful, he would take the credit.

Trump often makes offhanded remarks about how people around him look. In January, the President told a story when Vance felt the need to jump in as he was telling it. Back then, Trump shared that someone was using what he believed was Ozempic and he told them “it wasn’t working.”  Trump then continued, “He knows who I’m talking about,” implying that it was someone close to him. “He’s going crazy,” he added.

At that stage, Vance felt the need to clarify, “He’s not talking about me, ladies and gentlemen.” Laughter ensued as he defended himself.

Luckily, Trump confirmed Vance’s statement and smiled. “It’s not our great vice president,” he stated.

Trump:

A friend of mine—very smart, very rich, very powerful—but very fat. He took the fat drug. I won’t say which one. It was Ozempic.

The drug doesn’t work on him. I saw him recently—he’s actually fatter than ever. pic.twitter.com/lAgHDSN1tM

In 2024, however, many people alleged that Vance was using Ozempic. He stated that he had lost 30 pounds using a more traditional method. At the time, he said, “I haven’t taken any drugs.” Vance shared that he had lost the weight by running, going to the gym, and eating better.

And he was also watching the quality of what he was fueling his body with. “Obviously, you eat a little bit less, but it’s also just eating better. I tend to skip breakfast, whereas before I would have, like, you know, three waffles and scrambled eggs and bacon,” he said.

Vance’s motivation for improving his health was his kids. He said that he knew that he needed to change his lifestyle because he had started to feel out of breath when he played with his children. At the time, he had three kids. Now he and Usha Vance are about to welcome their fourth child into the family.

Vice President JD Vance discusses how he applies a MAHA style attitude to his personal life:

“If I woke up with back pain I don’t like taking ibuprofen. I don’t like to take medication unless I absolutely have to… it’s not anti-medication, it’s anti-useless medication. We… pic.twitter.com/jBF91Z3XSM

And once again, rumors are rife about how much weight he has lost. They started started after Benny Johnson interviewed him on his YouTube channel in late March. His transformation immediately sparked interest as people noticed his changed appearance. Vance looked slimmer in the footage, sparking rumors about him possibly using Ozempic to lose some weight.

During a panel discussion with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., he shared his dislike of taking medication. “I don’t like taking anything, unless I absolutely have to. And I think that’s another MAHA-style attitude,” Vance said. Adding, “It’s not anti-medication, it’s anti-useless medication.  He then concluded, “We should only be taking stuff, we should only be giving our kids stuff, if it’s actually necessary, safe and effective.”
