Drew Barrymore, the 51-year-old Hollywood actress who is quite popular for the rom-coms she has starred in, unfortunately did not have the kind of romance she had onscreen. While Barrymore gave marriage three chances, after her third marriage, she announced that she was done with the institution.
The actress was only 19 years old when she married a Los Angeles bar owner, Jeremy Thomas, in 1994. However, things went wrong almost immediately, as Barrymore filed for divorce only a couple of weeks after the wedding. Talking about her first marriage to Rolling Stone, she said, “He needed the marriage, and I stupidly agreed to it.”
She then added, “We were married for six weeks, and we were only together for, like, two days of it. It was such a joke. The whole thing was a f- -king lie. The press lied about it, we lied about it.”

Barrymore’s second husband was Tom Green and while her second marriage lasted longer than her first, it still ended pretty quickly. The couple met in 2000 and got married in 2001 and within less than a year the divorce followed.
However, unlike her first marriage with Thomas, Barrymore’s second marriage ended on better terms. Talking to PEOPLE about their marriage, Green said, “Drew is a wonderful woman. I love her very much. I wish our marriage could have worked out. I wish her much happiness.”
Barrymore’s third marriage was to Will Kopelman, and this happened to be her longest marriage. The duo started dating in 2011 and tied the knot in 2012. While they parted their ways in 2016, the couple has two daughters, Olive and Frankie, and share a healthy co-parenting relationship.
Barrymore also shares a great relationship with Kopelman’s new wife, as she herself said in 2021. Talking about her ex-husband’s new spouse, Barrymore said, “He just got remarried actually last week to this most amazing woman. This incredible woman Allie, and I just feel like I won the lottery with her, like, I really did. I feel like I’m lucky that there’s this new beautiful soul that came into our lives.”

Barrymore’s marriages have been a mixed bag for her, as she started with an absolutely disastrous marriage to one that seemed a lot more level-headed, logical, and healthy. However, after three failed marriages, the actress has made her stance on the institution clear, saying in a 2021 PEOPLE interview, “I will never, with a capital N-E-V-E-R, never get married. I never want to be entwined with someone like that again ever.”
Despite her negative experience with marriage, she also admitted, “I am a hopeless romantic. And we are constantly contending with relationships.” She then added, “You break up, and you move on. You get divorced, and it’s just so different.”
Barrymore’s stance on marriage shows the reality for many people who, despite getting heartbroken in an institution like marriage, can never let romance die from their lives.
