On January 28, 2026, the FBI reportedly raided the Fulton County Election Center in Georgia to seize the 2020 ballots. Over the years, Donald Trump has maintained that the 2020 elections were rigged.
Trump believes Joe Biden won because the elections were stolen from him. However, the issue is deeper than that, and experts have weighed in, expressing the dangers of the FBI search.
Trump has been after these ballots and demanding action over such treason for years. However, in reality, experts believe, the raid to procure ballots, digital data, and tabulator tapes related to the 2020 elections is a threat to democracy.
The warrant to conduct the raid was to seize the fraudulent ballots labeled as evidence of a crime. Over sixty legal cases were filed by Trump and his allies to overturn the “rigged” elections.
On the flip side, Trump might just be using federal powers to push his narrative and not deal with his loss in the elections.

According to ProPublica, Rick Hasen, a professor at the law school of the University of California, LA, expressed, “I’m not aware of something like this happening ever before.”
“The idea that federal officials would seize ballots in an attempt to prove fraud is especially dangerous in this context when we know there is no fraud because the Georgia 2020 election has been extensively counted, recounted and investigated,” he added.
According to the FBI, they are following orders that are court-authorized. The Fulton County commissioners and representatives expressed concerns over the raid.
Commissioner Chair Rob Pitts stated that he does not know where the materials will be taken or what the FBI plans to do with the ballots. Pitts also said that the ballots were safe till now in their custody, and their safety can no longer be ensured.

Trump also went on a Truth Social rant, and one of his posts was about the election rigging and accusing Barack Obama of electing Biden as a puppet. The raid coincided with his bizarre posts that were full of misinformation and false accusations.
Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s attorney, accused the election workers of rigging the elections, too. However, Trump lost against the $150 million defamation lawsuit by the two workers over false allegations.
Another Democratic Fulton County commissioner, Mo Ivory, called this raid “Donald Trump’s obsession with losing the 2020 election.” The raid was just another addition to exercise more federal control over the country.
