Princess Kate Middleton is one of the most popular royal figures of all time. The way she has molded herself and evolved as an individual over the years is truly inspiring and commendable.
The Princess of Wales has taken up every role with a lot of grace, dignity and has maintained her class despite immense ups and downs in the royal family in the last couple of years.
When Kate Middleton was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment, she announced the news with a calm and emotional video about it on social media. What followed was nothing but heavy media scrutiny as King Charles was also diagnosed shortly before hers.
Despite intense paparazzi scrutiny, including controversy surrounding an allegedly photoshopped Mother’s Day picture, Middleton and her family handled the situation very well.
Days after issuing an apology to Donald Trump for a misleading edit of his January 6th speech, the network was forced to apologize to Kate Middleton after receiving national backlash for using her incorrect title. While Kate is in remission and back to her royal duties, the BBC made a blunder when she was addressed during its Armistice Day coverage. Now the media outlet has apologized to the mother of three.
The presenter didn’t call the Princess of Wales anything insulting. The issue was simply that she was referred to as “Kate Middleton” instead of her official title, Princess of Wales, which she has held since King Charles III’s accession in 2022.
As per Tyla, the minor mistake, which may seem negligible to ordinary people, created massive backlash on social media platforms. Kate Middleton is usually referred to by her first name, Catherine, Princess of Wales or Catherine Princess of Wales.
The backlash ignited on November 11 when a BBC presenter repeatedly used her maiden name during live Armistice Day coverage. As clips of the event circulated, netizens reacted strongly as they questioned the BBC as to why Middleton’s formal title was not used.
One X user wrote: “I am glad that @BBC got national backlash for referring to Catherine Elizabeth, HRH The Princess of Wales, as Kate Middleton.” Another added: “It is disrespectful to use her maiden name.”
A third complained that the presenter referred to her as Kate Middleton “three times,” saying the BBC should “at least get her name right.” After the unexpected wave of criticism, the news channel issued an apology on its website.
Some viewers found the outrage itself ridiculous. One X user remarked: “Imagine being upset because someone was addressed by their name.” Another claimed, “I will forever call her Kate Middleton.”

Royal titles are extremely important as they highlight the rank and role of each member through their family line. The titles determine the level of authority within the family. Titles like King, Queen, Prince, and Duchess establish a clear rank within the family.
After King Charles and Queen Camilla, Kate is next in line to inherit the throne and be the Queen of England alongside Prince William. King Charles became a monarch in his 70s since his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, ruled for 70 years from 1952 to till her death in 2022 at the age of 96.
As of October 2025, King Charles officially stripped Prince Andrew of his royal titles and ordered him to vacate Royal Lodge. Although removing him from the line of succession would require an act of Parliament, Andrew’s position, now eighth in line to the throne, is mainly symbolic. This drastic step came after he was kept under investigation for a series of offenses, including sexually assaulting minors who were trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein.
