A top Polish general has warned that Russia is preparing for war with NATO. The warning comes just days after a rail connection between Warsaw and Ukraine was unexpectedly blown up. Officials have described the incident as an “unprecedented act of sabotage.” According to The U.S. Sun, the warning came from Wiesław Kukuła, Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces.
Kukuła warned that Vladimir Putin “has begun the period of preparing for war.” In his statement, the general said, “They are building an environment intended to create conditions favourable for potential aggression against Polish territory.”
He added, “The enemy has begun preparing for war.” Kukuła described the current climate as “a pre-war situation—or what we refer to as hybrid warfare.” It is important to note that if Russia decided to strike Poland, it would automatically trigger NATO’s Article 5. For those unversed, Article 5 states that if an armed attack is carried out against one member, it is considered an attack against all members. Therefore, all members would be obliged to assist the ally that has been attacked. This means that if the current situation escalates further, a potential World War III could erupt.

In his statement, Kukuła added, “He is creating a certain atmosphere aimed at undermining public trust in the government and in key structures such as the armed forces and the police, as well as creating conditions favourable to potential aggression on Polish territory.”
Military officials have also issued similar warnings, saying that if Russia attacks Poland, the UK will be prepared to deploy troops to defend NATO’s frontline. This development follows extensive discussions in September between French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
After the talks, Starmer confirmed that the UK “stands ready to support any further NATO deployments to the region.” In addition, the British government has accused Russia of worsening tensions. According to Downing Street, Moscow is continuing to behave aggressively through “a campaign of increasingly belligerent actions.”

Estonia’s foreign minister, Margus Tsahkna, has also issued a warning. He said that Putin could “return to our Baltic borders with even more troops and military equipment than they had before the full-scale invasion, within two to three years—or less.”
According to him, the Kremlin’s goal is not just to conquer Ukraine, but also “to dominate its near abroad, to divide the West, and to push the US out of Europe.”
