During a hearing on Tuesday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz made a humiliating mistake when he unintentionally urged Republicans and Democrats to “stop attacking pedophiles.” The embarrassing error happened during a Senate hearing on the Trump administration’s approach to urban crime. Before venting about the National Guard’s deployment in Washington, he failed to correct himself after making the mistake.

“Sen. [Cory] Booker also said we should have bipartisan agreement. I think that’s a great idea— we should have bipartisan agreement,” Cruz said, referring to the Democratic senator’s call for cooperation in a “bipartisan way” to maintain community safety.

“How about we all come together and say ‘Let’s stop murders,’” Cruz continued. “How about we all come together and say, ‘Let’s stop assault.’ How about we all come together and say, ‘Let’s stop attacking pedophiles.’”

Social media users quickly responded to the comment; some ridiculed the senator’s error, while others accepted it at its true worth. One person commented, “Talk about saying the quiet part out loud.” Another person asked, “What did you say?” and included a meme of actor Will Ferrell looking perplexed.

After making his mistake, Cruz continued to assert, without providing any supporting data. The National Guard’s presence had resulted in a decrease in crime, including a 57% decrease in robberies, a 58% decrease in killings, and a 48% decrease in sex abuse cases.

Voters nationwide continue to demand that people close to the Epstein be held accountable for the embarrassing situation, which comes shortly after the Epstein files scandal. In January, the senator from Texas had backed the publication of the notorious files. He stated that President Trump should “absolutely” declassify the investigation’s documents because “we deserve to know who is implicated in abusing children.”

“Every adult who was culpable and responsible” should be named and “criminally prosecuted,” he told Piers Morgan while he made an appearance on his show. He even added that he wants the government to “release everything” about the disgraced financier’s case.

However, earlier this month, he voted against a bill that would have mandated that the Justice Department provide the whole investigation to the public. Cruz made these comments just hours before a government shutdown that both parties have blamed on each other.

The unsuccessful 2016 presidential candidate blamed Democrats for the dramatic shutdown on Wednesday. He posted a video that went viral showing Senate Democrats with big mustaches and sombreros superimposed. “The 44 Senate Democrats who voted for [Sen. Chuck] Schumer’s Shutdown should know that the Sombrero posting will continue until they re-open our government,” Cruz wrote on social media.

In the video, Democrats are seen playing a modified version of the 1990s song “Macarena,” changing it to “MAGA-rena.”
