When Blair and Brooke Harber, ages 13 and 11, went on the family trip in Casa Bonita, they had no idea that this would be the last moment of their lives. The two sisters tragically lost their lives in the devastating Texas floods.
According to their family, when their bodies were found, “their hands were locked together,” revealing how they relied on each other at the last moment of their short lives. The grieving family now continues to search for their grandparents, who are currently missing.
On Friday, Casa Bonita, the gated community in the town of Hunt, was struck by devastating floods that killed the young girls, resulting in a total of 80 casualties. According to the New York Post, around 3:30 a.m. that day. The rushing water works up RJ Harber, the father of Blair and Brooke. Jennifer, the girls’ aunt, started a GoFundMe page since the tragic incident, where she wrote that around the same time, the older sister texted RJ and her maternal grandparents, “I love you.”
Jennifer also told KLOU that the rain was pouring already so hard that it was almost impossible to know when the water reached the cabin door. Brooke and Blair’s parents, RJ and Annie, shattered a window and attempted to go outside as they were desperate to reach their daughter, who was staying in a different cabin.
However, they couldn’t do so due to the raging waters. At the end, the desperate parents managed to wake up the neighbor who had a kayak and a paddle. Unlucky for them, the harsh water ultimately prevented them from kayaking through the flood. As revealed by Jennifer, RJ, and Annie were rescued alongside five of their surviving neighbors.
The girls’ aunt revealed to KLOU that they were found at least 12 hours later and 15 miles away. “Their hands were locked together,” Jennifer said.

Their grandparents, Mike and Charlene Harber, are still missing. The family had been sharing two separate cabins. RJ and Annie stayed in a one-bedroom home, while their neighbors opened their abode for Brooke and Blair, as it was more spacious.
Jennifer, who now grieves the death of her young nieces, shared that the siblings were “believers” and attended St. Rita’s Catholic School in Dallas, Texas. Their mom, Annie Harber, also worked at the same place as an instructional specialist.
“[Blair] was a gifted student and had a generous, kind heart. [Brooke] was like a light in any room, people gravitated to her and she made them laugh and enjoy the moment,” their father, RJ, shared with CNN.
Apart from those who were killed in the floods, at least 40 people are still unaccounted for. The state has taken immediate evacuation action as the Hill Country area is expecting more rainfall
