Boxee TV is now available at Walmart and for just $99 customers will be able to take advantage of free unlimited DVR service. The TV-connected box is also available for sale via the Boxee website.
The company’s unlimited DVR service will be given to early adopters for a three month period at which time customers can choose to keep the product for a discounted rate of $9.99 (instead of $15) or abandon it all together.
Customers can also get free Netflix service for three months while receiving a $5.99 Vudu credit.
Boxee plans to offer free DVR trials in the future, but they have not provided any details for those programs.
With the launch of the company’s second multimedia box, they have also brought about new streaming options including Spotify, MLB, TED, Wall Street Journal, Accuweather, and Boxee’s own Cloudee. Those services join Netflix , Vudu, YouTube, Pandora, and Vimeo,
Original Boxee Box owners have also been told that back end support for their devices will remain active for the “foreseeable future” and that an updated version of Flash Player will soon be made available for the first generation product.
Boxee does note that a lack of updates from Intel will make it impossible to upgrade the Netflix app for access outside the US and Canada. The company also can’t open the original Boxee device up for root access because of agreements with premium content providers.
