Bikers Attack: Wife Says Husband Will Be Paralyzed For Life

The end is not yet in sight in the terrifying incident captured on video in which a gang of bikers attack an unsuspecting SUV carrying a man, his wife, and child. One of the bikers shown being struck by the SUV has been paralyzed according to his wife.

In the incident which took place on Manhattan’s West Side Highway one of the bikers, Edwin Mieses Jr. suffered broken legs and extensive back injuries according to his wife Dayana.

She spoke outside the hospital where her husband was taken to on Tuesday with the update on his condition.

“There’s no hope for his back,” Dayana Meises told reporters. “They crushed his spine. They broke it in two different places, so he will be forever, forever paralyzed.”

The distraught woman is calling for justice and for something to be done to the driver of the SUV, who has been identified as Alexian Lien, 33, who also was taken to a hospital to get stitches from injuries suffered when one of the bikers attacked the vehicle striking it with his helmet.

Police say that another man was injured after a pack of 20 to 30 bikers chased down the SUV down the highway for reasons that are still unknown.

The approximately six minute long video shows the terrified driver being trapped by the pack and seemingly trying to escape and take his family to safety.

One of the bikers, who cuts into the path of the truck is seen getting struck by it, but police are not ready to make any charges against Lien.

Dayana Meises is defending the bikers and saying the media is portraying them as the villains who ambushed and attacked an innocent man driving his family on Sunday.

“Everyone wants to blame the bikers for something this man did,” she said.

Meises told WBZ-TV that her husband got off his bike to help another rider who was struck in an initial collision with the SUV.

“When all the bikers stopped, my husband got out, parked his bike to walk over to try to help his friend,” the woman said. “He walked over towards the front of the vehicle when, at this point, I don’t know what happened: the man was scared, the man just peeled off and ran over my husband.”

The video of the bikers attack taken by a camera mounted on one of the motorcyclists helmets was posted to YouTube anonymously and shows how the pack of riders surrounds the SUV and at some point make it stop on the West Side Highway.

Some of the bikers in the gang get off their bikes and start hitting the car at which time Lien suddenly speeds away trumping over one of the motorcycles.

This enrages the rest of the pack and they give chase until Lien exits the Highway and gets stuck in city traffic. Afterwards the bikers come to attack the vehicle, with one of them striking it with his helmet and smashing the window.

According to police the bikers pulled the driver out of the car and beat him. Authorities have declared the YouTube video is authentic and are using it in their investigation.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the investigation is still ongoing, but so far they have backed up Lien.

“Well, it depends on what the circumstances are,” Kelly said. “It depends on whether or not your vehicle is being attacked, whether or not you think you’re being attacked, whether or not your wife and child’s in the car. You have to look at the totality of the circumstances, and that’s what we’re doing.”

The biker that is seen on the video getting struck by the SUV was arrested on Tuesday. Christopher Cruz, of Passaic, New Jersey was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, endangering the welfare of a child, and menacing. He was uninjured and was in custody awaiting arraignment.

Allen Edwards, 42, of Queens, New York, who is seen smashing the SUV with his fists, surrendered to police on Tuesday. He was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and menacing.

Police are still seeking the biker seen attacking the SUV with his helmet in the last part of the terrifying incident.
