Will Smith opened up about his past marriage to Sheree Zampino during an episode of Red Table Talk .
According to People , the sneak peek for Red Table Talk ‘s Father’s Day special shows Will being transparent about his past mistakes. In the clip, Will is sitting with his current wife, Jada Pinkett Smith on the couch at the couple’s home. During their discussion, the couple talked about the importance of remaining a good father even when you’re no longer in a relationship with the child’s mother. Prior to his divorce from Zampino, the former couple shared a son named Trey. Will said the decision to split up was one of his biggest regrets.
“Divorce was the worst thing in my adult life,” Will shared in the preview.
“Divorce was the ultimate failure for me. I’ve been hurt a lot in my adult life, but I don’t think anything touches the failure of getting divorced from my 2-year-old son’s mother.”
Will and Zampino got married in 1992 and divorced in 1995. Not long after the split, Will fell in love again, that time with Jada. Although they first met when Jada auditioned to be on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in 1994, they remained friends until starting a romantic relationship the following year.
After their divorce, Zampino went on to marry Terrell Fletcher in 2007. Although she and Will haven’t been together for decades, they still remained friends for their son’s sake. Back in October 2019, Zampino shared on Instagram how close she is with both Will and Jada. The family attended the premiere for Will’s film, Gemini Man , and many of their fans were shocked to see the three of them together. Zampino commented about the night under a picture of her and Will hugging at the event.
“I love & honor this man!” Zampino exclaimed. “I know this is gonna have some of you less mature, less evolved, and perverted folk all up in a tizzy! Have a blessed day…I know I will.”
Zampino also posted a photo of her and Jada from the premiere. While the women are friends with each other today, they both admitted it wasn’t always easy for them to maintain a healthy relationship. Last year, Jada had Zampino as a guest on RTT and the women discussed their past issues with one another. During their talk, Zampino recalled a time when she felt Jada was being rude to her. She said they exchanged heated words after Jada moved into the house she picked out during her marriage to Will. Jada said Will instantly diffused the situation by defending his ex-wife.
