'Daredevil' Season 3: The Kingpin Is Back And Might Get His Own Show

Netflix is down for a double dare in Daredevil Season 3, as the stakes are now twice as high with the official announcement that Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. The Kingpin will be returning.

Vincent D'Onofrio, the Emmy nominated actor who brought Fisk to life in the two previous seasons of Daredevil, will be reprising his role in the third season. D'Onofrio has also teased his return as Daredevil's nemesis, the crimelord Fisk when he updated his Twitter profile banner with a rear shot of Fisk wearing his signature suit in the show and staring at his favorite artwork-- a pattern which resembled the wall he stared at before he murdered his father as a child.

Part of the success of Fisk's popularity in the first season of Daredevil was due to Season 1 showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, who has since departed the show. However, DeKnight expressed his renewed interest in the character by addressing a fan wish regarding his overseeing Fisk's character in the Netflix series.

DeKnight even went the extra mile and told fans that he would very much be enthused with a six-episode Return of the King miniseries starring D'Onofrio as Fisk. Return of the King, for those unfamiliar, is a five-part Marvel comic book series which followed the story of Fisk returning back to Hell's Kitchen from abroad to exact revenge on those responsible for the death of his family.

The story arc was popular since it was one of the rare instances in the franchise where Daredevil and Fisk helped each other for a common cause. D'Onofrio has not yet responded to the tweet where he was tagged by DeKnight, so fans may want to hold their breaths first as the possibility of the Kingpin miniseries is still premature at the moment.
Along with D'Onofrio's return, a new showrunner has also been introduced for Daredevil Season 3. Erik Oleson, best known for writing the television adaptation of DC Comics' Arrow, will now be handling the upcoming season of the Marvel's Daredevil. Oleson will be taking over from Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez who both spearheaded the second season of the Netflix show.

Regardless of the showrunner choice of Marvel and Netflix, Fisk's return in the series is sure to stir up some hype for fans of both the comic books and the show. Fisk was arguably one of the strongest selling points of the first season of Daredevil where he provided a performance worthy of an award nomination. His appearance in Season 2, while scarce, made his character somehow even more menacing.

Daredevil Season 3 should now be in the works, but has no release date yet on Netflix.
