WWE News: Thea Trinidad Explains How Her Relationship With Austin Aries Started And NXT Match With Asuka

Thea Trinidad has inspired many up-and-coming female wrestlers to keep fighting for the goal of making it to the big leagues. It was not very difficult for her to choose a professional wrestling career since many members of her family were wrestling fans. Her dad was an amateur wrestler, and her uncle was a professional wrestler in Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, her dad passed away during the 9/11 attacks in 2001. Out of her depression, she realized that it would do her father proud to start a professional wrestling career in his honor since it was something he also aspired to be.

With hard work, training, and knowing the right people to reach out to, Trinidad made her debut for TNA in 2011 after some time in the independent circuit and getting discovered by Tommy Dreamer. There, Trinidad flourished as a competitor, joining the Mexican America stable as “Rosita” with Hernandez, Anarquia, and Sarita. Just months after her debut, Trinidad would win the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship with Sarita, claiming her first major championship.

Interestingly, Trinidad also found another perk of being a part of the TNA roster. There, she formed a relationship with current 205Live commentator and former TNA World Heavyweight Champion Austin Aries. Rosita claimed during a recent episode of the Pancakes and Powerslams Show, however, that it did not start off on the right foot.

“We had a talent meeting [in TNA]. I’ll never forget this because I wanted to punch him in the face, but we were having a talent meeting and I was talking to Bubba [Ray] Dudley. I was finishing my last sentence, and right when the meeting was starting, I hear somebody shush from behind me. And he was like, ‘shhhh.’ And I was like, ‘Who the [heck] is shushing me?!’ I was like, what? I don’t know what it is. You can tell me like, hey, settle down. But when you shush me? For some reason that’s like [shut up] in my ears. So, right away, I turned around with this anger, and I was like [to Austin], ‘Who the [heck] are you to be shushing me?!’ And he’s like, ‘Oh. I’m just kidding. The meeting is about to start and I was just messing with you.’ And I was like, okay, okay. Whatever. I’ll mess with him later. And then, he had a really great match… and we just started talking after that, and everything just kinda happened. But it all started from a shush.”

Trinidad also talked about the amazing experience she had competing in NXT against Asuka.

“Up until I was standing in the ring with the cameras on, that’s when I started to believe the gravity of the situation. I was surprised that I wasn’t very nervous, because I think it didn’t click yet. And then as soon as I got there, it was like, nervous. Because I love Asuka. Her work is amazing. It was such an honor to be in the ring with her, and she’s an incredible person, so it was like a home vibe, because I had Sarita there as the producer, I had Austin Aries there with me, and then Terry Taylor, who actually was the one who hired me in TNA. It just felt like a good family vibe. I felt like I was supposed to be there. It was amazing.”

Trinidad, who turns just 26 in late December, has shown that having a dream of endeavoring a successful professional wrestling career comes with first believing that it can happen, as well as putting in the work to make it happen. From the looks of it, we will see her in a WWE or NXT ring again sooner than later.

Until then, Thea will continue to hone her craft as one of the most exciting female wrestlers on the independent circuit. Spending her time in Japan, as well as for promotions such as SHINE, Trinidad is continuing to compete in the sport she loves and gain a huge following. In a recent video, Trinidad explained how the time away from family and friends can be very difficult for her to manage, and sometimes she gets lonely. However, she stated that she will continue to travel and do what she loves, because she knows that it is all worth it in the end.

Based on the time she spends responding to her fans on social media, she is certainly appreciative of the opportunities she is being given, and is excited about the future.
