Nina Dobrev To Become Screenwriter, Confirms Not Joining ‘The Vampire Diaries’

The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev broke the hearts of millions of fan when she announced that she is not going to return as Elena Gilbert in The CW’s supernatural show.

In her earlier interview with Self, Dobrev addressed the decision of leaving TVD and how she wanted to make an impact before her official departure. The actress was also pumped because her exit from The Vampire Diaries has given her time and energy to explore new territories.

“I feel like I’m a completely different person than I was and I’ve grown so much. It’s been a big part of my life, and I want it to be beautiful. I want it to end well… I’ve loved working on this show. It’s been such a crazy, awesome adventure, and I’ve been surrounded by so many people who I consider family. I know this is a new exciting step in the right direction for me, but it’s going to be so strange not to be with them.”

In her interview, it was also revealed that beyond acting, Dobrev will also try working as a screenwriter.

Well, it has yet to be seen what story Dobrev will come up with in future, maybe a story where a human-turned-vampire gets to live at the end as only human?

In other news, Dobrev’s IMDB page has recently been updated, and it reveals that she is going to appear as Elena Gilbert in Season 18 Episode 16. But does she really want to return?

In her earlier interview with Interview Magazine, the Bulgarian beauty made it clear from her end that when she started working on TVD, she knew that when her contract would come to an end, she wouldn’t extend it. In her words, TVD has given her a platform to express herself, but now is the time to explore her acting skills in feature films.

“I had a great experience, but everything has to come to an end and this was my time. It’s like high school, you do four years and then you move onto the college,” she further added.

Having said that, show’s executive producer and Dobrev’s long-time friend Julie Plec still has high hopes for the actress. During the recently held San Diego Comic-Con, showrunner Plec stated that the network and the writing team have high hopes for Dobrev, and everyone is trying very hard to bring her back.

“Not to put too much pressure on anything Nina Dobrev, but a promise was made. An emotional promise that I’d like to see come to life,” she added.

On the other hand, The CW’s executive producer Mark Pedowitz also confirmed that the network is in talks to bring her back. According to E! News, while speaking at the Television Critics Association summer tour, Pedowitz revealed that the writing team of TVD has come up with two endings, one that will feature Dobrev as Elena Gilbert and the other one will end the series without featuring Dobrev.

“We backed Julie [Plec] in her decision … there are discussions going on with Nina, we’d love to have her back … These are discussions that go on, hopefully, she’ll be back, but should it not work out, Julie has planned out a great series finale for fans.”

Nina Dobrev is currently busy with xXx: Return of Xander Cage, in which she will be sharing space with Vin Diesel and Ruby Rose. The third part in the xXx franchise is slated to release on January 20, 2017.

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 will air on Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. on The CW and it is yet to be seen whether the fans of the supernatural drama series will get to see Nina Dobrev back in action or not.
