‘The Catch’ Season 2 Cast: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star T.R. Knight To Join ‘Scandal’ Producer’s Newest TV Thriller On ABC

ABC’s latest TV thriller from Scandal producer Shonda Rhimes saw a considerable amount of success when it aired earlier this year. The Catch was quickly picked up for a second season, set to air at some point in 2017. As it stands, key cast members from the first season of The Catch are set to make a return in the show’s second season. However, ABC has also confirmed that as is customary with Shonda Rhimes’ shows, The Catch will grow in scope with its second season as new characters are introduced.

According to the International Business Times, one of the most prominent of those new cast members is Theodore Raymond Knight, or T.R. Knight, as he’s more commonly known. Knight is best known for his role as Dr. George O’Malley on the ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, which is also produced by Shonda Rhimes. Rhimes produces a number of shows for ABC under the Shondaland umbrella and commonly brings cast members from her older shows to her newer ventures.

Whilst making the announcement of T.R. Knight’s upcoming appearance in The Catch, Rhimes said she was thrilled to be working with the actor again. In her statement, Rhimes refers to T.R. Knight as a family member, adding that keeping the news that he’d be coming home a secret was incredibly difficult.

T.R. Knight was equally as pleased to be joining the cast of The Catch, saying “Working with Shonda, Betsy and Allan again fills me with immense joy. I am heartened to be returning to Shondaland, and excited to work with this exceptional cast!” Shonda Rhimes is also well known for using the same production team across many of her TV dramas, meaning that Knight will likely be working with many of the same production staff members on The Catch as he did with Grey’s Anatomy.

RELATED STORIES ON INQUISITR:

The Catch follows the story of private investigator Alice Vaughan, played by Mireille Enos who specialises in catching high-profile criminals. However, the series opens with Vaughan finding herself at the centre of a huge con, with her own fiancé the criminal mastermind responsible for stealing millions of dollars from her. The Catch sells itself as a high-octane TV thriller that’s entwined with various plot twists and love stories between its complicated set of characters.

The show is the fourth TV drama to air on ABC from Shonda Rhimes, following in the footsteps of the aforementioned Grey’s Anatomy and political drama Scandal, alongside How To Get Away With Murder. Whilst The Catch didn’t manage to pull in as many viewers during its first season as other shows from Rhimes, according to Deadline, before the conclusion of the show’s first season, ABC confirmed that they had renewed The Catch for a second season going forward.

Rhimes is yet to confirm what role T.R. Knight will assume on The Catch. The actor is returning to Shondaland following his last appearance as Dr George O’Malley in Grey’s Anatomy before the character was killed off in the show’s fifth season finale in 2009.

T.R. Knight will be the first actor from another of Shonda Rhimes’ shows to make an appearance in The Catch. As aforementioned, Rhimes is no stranger to crossing actors over between her series, with Bellamy Young starting her acting career with a minor role in Grey’s Anatomy, before garnering the role of First Lady Melly Grant in Scandal. It remains to be seen whether or not Shonda Rhimes will bring any actors from the Scandal universe into the second season of her newest TV show, The Catch.
