‘The Bachelorette’ JoJo’s Ex-Boyfriend Chad Rookstool Creates Trust Issues With JoJo’s Guys — ‘She Went On The Show For Career Purposes’

The Bachelorette drama heats up on Episode 5 when JoJo Fletcher’s ex-boyfriend, Chad Rookstool, has some of the remaining guys rethinking their relationship with JoJo. Although contestant Chad Johnson’s explosive exit still has fans talking, it’s what the other Chad has to say about JoJo that forces an emotional Bachelorette to defend herself when the guys question her intentions.

What did Chad Rookstool say about JoJo Fletcher that made her cry and how do the guys react? Here’s what fans can expect when The Bachelorette Episode 5 airs on June 20.

[Warning: Bachelorette Season 12 spoilers ahead]

The Episode 5 preview (above) shows JoJo crying and then cuts to her saying, “I hate him.” Although viewers will think she is talking about newly-ousted villain Chad Johnson, her tears are flowing because producers tell her that her ex-boyfriend, Chad Rookstool, talked trash about her in an interview that was published while the show was filming.

In March, Chad, who owns the Chad Rookstool Salon in Dallas, spoke to In Touch about his relationship with JoJo and went so far as to say that she was never in love with Bachelor Ben Higgins and had zero interest in the 26 guys cast for the Bachelorette — she only went on TV to find fame.

According to Reality Steve, producers decided to bring the article to JoJo when she was filming in Uruguay with her final 8 guys. It won’t come as a big surprise to fans that producers decided to create a storyline around it — hence, the reason JoJo is shown crying in the teaser for Episode 5. Now that Chad the villain is gone, they obviously needed something controversial to happen to keep the drama going this season.

In the interview with InTouch, Rookstool stated that he and JoJo were “intimate again” after she returned from filming the Bachelor last November. While the show was airing, he claims that they were “sneaking around” so no one would know that JoJo didn’t win Ben’s final rose.

Chad goes on to say that JoJo told him she wasn’t in love with Ben and their relationship was “only for TV.” When she was offered the Bachelorette gig, she told Rookstool that she didn’t want to break off their relationship for good.

“When she got home, she kept telling me she loved me and that we should have stayed together and fought through our issues,” Chad tells In Touch. “She said we would’ve been married by now, and I agreed with her.”

According to In Touch, Rookstool said that JoJo’s appearances on both the Bachelor and the Bachelorette were for “career purposes,” not love and she was initially cast for Ben’s season because her brother, Ben Patton, is friends with Louis Caric, one of the show’s casting producers.

On the next episode of the Bachelorette that airs June 20, JoJo is forced to explain to the guys what he ex-boyfriend said about, knowing that they would probably read the article when filming wrapped.

Although previews show that the guys are upset over the possibility that JoJo might not be there for the right reasons, spoilers indicate that it didn’t seem to have any bearing on how any of them, including her frontrunners, felt about her.

It’s likely that Jordan Rodgers and Robby Hayes, who are rumored to be her final two guys, weren’t concerned about what her ex-boyfriend had to say, perhaps because their ex-girlfriends have been making waves about their past relationships.

Jordan has been called out for not only his infidelities in past relationships but his desire to go on the Bachelorette to help his career. Robby is rumored to have broken off a four-year relationship with Hope Higgenbotham, who looks so much like JoJo that it’s clear he has a type. Hope will not appear on the Bachelorette, but her relationship with Robby is something that will be addressed during the overnight dates episode that airs in July.

The next episode of the Bachelorette was originally scheduled to air on Monday, June 13, but has been moved to June 20 due to the NBA finals airing on ABC. Check out this Bachelorette weekly episode schedule for more information.
