‘Date With Love’: Hallmark Celebrity ‘Promposal’ Movie Airing Tonight, Starring Bailee Madison, Shenae Grimes-Beech
Date With Love, aka Promposal, is a smashing new Hallmark Channel original movie that will debut tonight. Date With Love, is directed by Ron Oliver and written by Brooke Durham, and is about a teenage boy from a small town who creates a “promposal” video that becomes an internet sensation. The dream date becomes a nightmare when his celebrity crush accepts his proposal to attend his high-school prom, but sets her sights on someone else. Hallmark Channel’s Date With Love Movie Synopsis
Hollywood starlet, Alex, is about to receive a promposal from J.H. High School student, David. There’s just one issue, Alex has no idea who he is. In order to capture her attention, David created a promposal video that he hopes will go viral. His dream comes true after he receives confirmation that Alex not only saw the video, she has accepted his request to be his date for the prom.

Excited to have Alex on his arm, David sets out to make sure this prom is the best one ever. After all, Alex is a big star who is used to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. When she arrives, David is pleasantly surprised, as he looks into the eyes of his favorite girl. But what should be a time of excitement quickly turns into an emotional let-down when his star date becomes infatuated with his English teacher, Mr. Walsh.
The romantic Mr. Walsh is smitten by the world-famous celeb and believes that people from different worlds can find love in each other. Will Mr. Walsh steal Alex’s heart for good, and will David find love with another girl who has been under his nose the entire time?
What’s A “Promposal”
A promposal, a play on the words “prom” and “proposal,” is an elaborate way of asking someone to the prom. It is most often done by creating a video that is posted to the internet in the hopes that it will go viral and capture the attention of the intended target, according to CNN.
“As promposal clips go viral, more and more young people think that you need to create these elaborate schemes to ask someone to prom and the reality is that it should be just a fun event for young people to dance and celebrate.”
A lot of thought and consideration is put into setting up a prom proposal or “promposal,” CNN continues.
“It takes a lot for a guy to put himself out there for a girl, and they want to do everything they can to make sure they’re not humiliated,” he said. “By doing it in a special way, or publicly showing that he really wants to go with that person, 99 percent of the time the girl will say yes.”
Over the years several promposals have gone viral, even reaching the national news. In one case a high-school student was suspended for asking Miss Universe to be his prom date, according to CS Monitor.
Promposal videos have also been created for major celebrities. Some of the most popular ones that have gone viral, include messages to Zendaya, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus, according to Seventeen.
Date With Love is sure to be a hit among teens. The two-hour Hallmark Channel movie is executive produced by Michael G. Larkin with music provided by Michael Richard Plowman. It will air on Saturday, May 21, at 9/8 p.m. Central on the Hallmark Channel.
