Nina Dobrev Getting Revenge On Ian Somerhalder By Joining Cast Of ‘The Originals’?

Nina Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries last season after deciding that it was time for her to move on with her career — and her life. Her decision came not long after she and Ian Somerhalder called it quits and he got engaged (and married) to Nikki Reed (of Twilight fame). Now, new reports suggest that Nina Dobrev is considering a sort of lateral move — perhaps one to get back at her ex and to reclaim her made-for-television throne.

According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, there are rumors out there that Dobrev is thinking about joining the cast of The Originals, a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries. Not only is Dobrev rumored to be bringing Elena Gilbert back to life, but some have gone so far as to say that she is doing so as a form of revenge.

“Fingers crossed that Nina Dobrev does entertain any offers that come in from The Originals. She would be an amazing addition to the cast and seeing her outdo The Vampire Diaries with her ex Ian Somerhalder would be sweet, sweet revenge for him moving on and wedding Nikki Reed.”

Nina Dobrev may not want to work with Ian Somerhalder again, even though the two claim to be friends. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, there were some rumors that Ian would also move to The Originals, especially if The Vampire Diaries was canceled.

“The show was just renewed for another season, but ratings have dropped significantly since Nina Dobrev left the show in season 6. Now, it sounds like much of the cast could be heading to a different show, but keeping their respective parts, which may or may not make sense.”

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have quite the history. The two dated for a few years, though they tried to keep their romance quiet for a very long time. They lived together in Atlanta where they filmed The Vampire Diaries and they would go on fun vacations together (fans were quick to link the separate photos the two would share on social media and could easily figure out that Ian and Nina were together).

Sources say that Dobrev and Somerhalder went their separate ways because Ian wanted to get married and have children. Nina, who just turned 27 in January, reportedly didn’t want to get married and become a mom in her early 20s. And so, Ian found someone else. Nikki Reed was a good friend of his and a friend of Nina’s. No matter what they say, it seems obvious that this coupling stung Nina Dobrev — how could it not?

While it would be no surprise if Nina Dobrev decided against coming back to her role as Elena Gilbert for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with Ian Somerhalder, some seem to think that her joining The Originals would be a great way for her to get back at Ian. Why? Well, it could take away from The Vampire Diaries, leaving the show canceled and leaving Ian without a job.

“If Nina came over to The Originals, no doubt her addition to the cast would drastically boost ratings for The Originals. But would Nina Dobrev’s presence also increase viewership for The Vampire Diaries since it’s on before The Originals? Or would it draw viewers away from Somerhalder’s suffering show,” reports Celebrity Dirty Laundry.

If any of this is true, however, Nina Dobrev won’t be joining a show that Ian Somerhalder could work on in the future. If she is truly ready to leave all of that behind and leave her memories to be what they were, she won’t be joining The Originals, nor will she resurrect Elena Gilbert. Thoughts?
