Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update With 159 New Emojis Rolling Out For Samsung Galaxy Edge+

Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is now available for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+. After the release of the latest Google mobile OS for Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the bigger variant of the 2016 flagship with curved display called the Galaxy S6 Edge+ is now starting to receive the Marshmallow goodies.

According to Mobipicker, the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is now available for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ units in South Korea. Citing Sam Mobile, it noted that the latest firmware is out for SK Telecom subscribers. The Android Marshmallow update is expected to roll out soon for other network carriers and other regions soon.

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ has build number G928SKSU2BPAG. With more than 1 gigabyte in size, the firmware update can be downloaded and installed via Samsung’s Smart Switch desktop application. Another method available to experience the official Marshmallow update on Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ is via Over-the-Air or OTA update.

It was noted on Emojipedia that 159 new emojis will be available for Samsung’s upcoming flagship models, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. But Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and other older smartphones need not be envious of this perk as these refreshed emojis will also be available on mobile devices eligible for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, 9to5Google noted.

Accordingly, these additional emojis are from Unicode 7.0 and 8.0 releases. The previous emoji update made by Samsung was during the launch of its 2013 flagship smartphone, Samsung Galaxy S5 with Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware. Describing these emojis available from Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, the report shared the following.

“Samsung’s take on emoji is much more rounded and in-line with Apple’s, Whatsapp’s, and countless industry others. In comparison, Google uses a much more bulbous-looking character on Android and in Hangouts on the web.”

The collection of new emojis include fresh faces such as Face with Rolling Eyes, Upside-Down Face, Money-Mouth Face, Face With Thermometer, Thinking Face, Nerd Face, Robot Face among others. Some of the new animals to expect in the emoji section are Lion Face, Turkey, Dove of Peace, Chipmunk, Scorpion, Crab, and more.

For expressing weather conditions, owners of Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS can use new symbols such as White Sun Behind Cloud, White Sun With Small Cloud, Cloud With Rain, Cloud With Snow, Cloud with Tornado, Wind Blowing Face and Fog. There are also four new gestures added in the emoji collection, namely the Reversed Hand with Middle Finger Extended, Raised Hand with Fingers Splayed, Sign of the Horns, and Writing Hand.

Certain sports and activities also got their own emojis for representation such as golf, weightlifting, car racing, volleyball, table tennis, badminton and more. Android Marshmallow brings in other key features such as Doze, a battery-saving feature which automatically sets the device into a sleep state, according to Android’s official website. Marshmallow OS also provides support for Android for Work which is “an enterprise mobility management (EMM) platform that lets companies deliver a secure, productive, and rich mobile experience to their employees,” the official Google support page expounded.
