‘Deadpool 2’ Cast May Include Wolverine, But Not Hugh Jackman?

It may be a bit early to start predicting who might show up in the Deadpool 2 cast, especially since the original hasn’t even been released yet. With the generally positive reaction to the trailers and Ryan Reynolds’ own advertising campaigns, it may be 20th Century Fox’s first successful R-rated superhero film.

That rating may come at a price, though. It was recently revealed that China banned the movie due to the content which gave it that rating, says Screen Rant. China was a big part of the reason why Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction was so successful, and Deadpool won’t have that audience.

Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller are gambling a lot on keeping the rating intact and not releasing a PG-13 cut for younger fans and Chinese moviegoers. The possibility of such a cut has been shot down as well, with Reynolds apparently stating that if everything giving the film its R rating was taken out, the movie would be about 10 minutes long.

If they are successful and a sequel is warranted, the Deadpool 2 cast could bring in a character that Deadpool fans have grown to expect. Cable could be the Merc with a Mouth’s next villain, but there is another character who has been part of the X-Men films since day one, and he could be making his appearance in the sequel.

Here’s a hint: He’s the best there is at what he does.

Yes, Wolverine, the guy who introduced Deadpool to theaters a few year ago when 20th Century Fox turned Deadpool into something unrecognizable, could make an appearance. Fans might finally see Wade Wilson fight Logan in a way that stays true to the comics this time. We might even get a clever inside joke from Wade about how “[t]his looks familiar. I hope I don’t lose my head this time.”

While the Deadpool 2 cast is mere speculation at this time, another rumor has cropped up due to a statement from the original Wolverine, Hugh Jackman.

“I’ve never thought about it till now, but doing something with Ryan – he’s awesome – that’s always attractive to me. But I think you’ve probably got several other people lined up to play [Wolverine].”

Jackman seems rather certain that he will be recast following his previous decision to retire from the role after one more appearance (reportedly in a film about “Old Man Logan”). If Wolverine does show up in the Deadpool 2 cast, he will most likely be played by someone new, much like Colossus is in the first one.

Cinema Blend even stated that if 20th Century Fox decides to recast Wolverine too quickly, they could suffer backlash from fans who have seen Hugh Jackman play the role for two decades. However, if they do decide to go with a new actor and continue using the character in future X-Men films, the Deadpool 2 cast might be the perfect place to break him in.

The recent promo for Australia Day may be the closest we come to seeing the Merc with a Mouth take on the berzerker. In it, Ryan Reynolds wore the usual costume, plus a hat, as he ridiculed Australia for producing Jackman’s Wolverine. This is the kind of fourth-wall-breaking shenanigans fans have grown to love about Deadpool, and Ryan keeps nailing it.

Will his next promo poke fun at Blade’s partner Hannibal King from Blade: Trinity? If so, that would complete Deadpool’s references to Ryan Reynolds’ failed attempts at playing a superhero.

Hopefully, Reynolds will amaze audiences and please fans enough to warrant a sequel. Then we might start getting more solid news about the possible Deadpool 2 cast.
