As the Inquisitr previously reported, Michael Cavallari was reported missing earlier this week after his vehicle, a 2014 Honda Civic, was found abandoned. Michael was last seen by his family on Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving. His laptop and cell phone were left in his car, leaving no way to reach the reality star’s brother. However, the police were able to track his credit card transactions to a convenience store in Monticello, east of where the car was found abandoned.

The security footage from the convenience store made it possible for the authorities to positively identify Michael as the driver of the abandoned vehicle, which was found in a rocky patch off of the highway, still running with the airbags deployed. The clerk at the Maverick store said Michael had purchased gas and asked for directions to Salt Lake City before getting on the 191 north. The police searched the area near and around the Michael’s car but were not able to find the driver at the time.

On Thursday, however, the police made a grim discovery. They discovered Michael’s body “northwest of where the car was located, approximately three miles from the vehicle,” Grand County Sheriff Steven White told the Daily Mail. The search crew, which consisted of approximately 30 people, located Michael’s body at approximately 10:30 a.m. in an area described as having “a very steep slope, kind of rocky with boulder fields around it.”

“He was kind of on the slope itself,” White said. “He was not too far from the bottom but he was actually on the slope itself.”

White said Michael Cavallari’s body was being transported to the medical examiner’s office to determine the time and cause of death. He added that the toxicology report could take up to eight weeks to come back.

“I’d like to send my condolences to the family,” White said. “This is a tough situation. But there were multiple agencies that assisted this and a lot of people who put in dedicated time and I’d like to thank them for bringing closure to this.”

Kristin Cavallari issued a statement to Us Weekly on Thursday after learning that her brother had been found dead.

“We want to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers during this very difficult time,” she said. “We have just been informed by the authorities my brother’s body has been found. This is a very painful time and we are still processing it all. We kindly ask everyone please respect our privacy during our time of grieving.””

The circumstances surrounding Michael’s disappearance and death are still being investigated. It is being speculated, however, that he may have left his vehicle and wandered into the desert, ultimately becoming lost and disoriented.
