Angelina Jolie Is Brad Pitt’s First Female Director: ‘I Trust Her With My Life’

Angelina Jolie was shining as always on Wednesday night when she and her husband, the handsome Brad Pitt, attended the WSJ Magazine 2015 Innovator Awards. At the event, which was a black-tie, red-carpet affair, Robert De Niro presented Angelina Jolie with the WSJ Innovator Award for Entertainment/Film. People reports how emotional Angelina became when she made her acceptance speech.

“When I was little, my mom used to say to me, ‘Let me see your soul.’ When I was angry or sad or trying to express something that mattered, she would hold me and she would look me in the eyes and say that. And if I didn’t know what it meant but I understood that she wanted me to drop all pretenses and just be. My children are innovators. All children are.”

And did she really kiss Robert De Niro on the red carpet?

Angelina Jolie most certainly is an artist of a very high caliber. She and Brad Pitt recently attended the screening of her film, By the Sea, in which the couple stars together for the first time in ten years. But this is a movie about a couple whose marriage is slowly crumbling down around them, which is the complete opposite of the real life marriage of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

That’s not to say that filming the movie didn’t come without challenges, especially due to the fact that they did it within six months of tying the knot in 2014, even though they had been together for nine years. Angeline Jolie told Us Magazine that they managed to keep it together by following a regular family routine and being with their six children each day after filming.

“That might have been an absolute disaster. But as soon as we got home, it was bedtime stories, children’s needs and problems, the fights they’d had during the day. We had to immediately snap back to something that was uniting and positive and loving.”

Not only does Angelina star in the movie, she also wrote and directed it. She revealed to the New York Times that the leading female role was not originally written with the intention of her playing the part, and Angelina Jolie spoke about how she handled it.

“There were lots of scenes I wanted to change or cut. I realized it was going to be me [naked] in that bathtub. But I told myself, put all of that aside. Like, you can’t change or cut this scene because you’ve had a mastectomy, or because we’re married and people are going to analyze this or that. That would be cheating.”

So how does Brad feel about being directed by his wife, which was also the first female ever to be his director? He recently did an interview with V Magazine, in which he revealed how much he truly enjoyed being directed by his wife.

“She’s decisive, incredibly intuitive, knife-sharp, and might I say, sexy at her post. I trust her with my life.”

It’s clear that Angeline Jolie is a true artistic talent in both her writing and acting, and if she can successfully be her husband’s director, she must be very good and they must have a great chemistry. There is no doubt that she and Brad Pitt create magic together both on and off the screen. The trailer for By the Sea captures the essence of the movie perfectly. It is a piece of brutal emotion.
