Klaus Returning To ‘The Vampire Diaries’ In A Crossover?

Rumors are spreading that Klaus will be returning to The Vampire Diaries in a crossover with sister its show, The Originals. With the Heretics getting more out of control and becoming more of a threat to the Salvatores and their friends, it looks like they may have to rely on the original hybrid to clean up the mess.

It will not be the first time a crossover has happened. Klaus and Rebekah turned up in season five after leaving Mystic Falls for New Orleans. However, they did not play a pivotal role in the plot, and it was not considered an official crossover. The only officially considered crossover between The Vampire Diaries and The Originals was in season two of the child show, when Nina Dobrev came in as Tatia, the doppelganger who had almost torn Elijah and Klaus Mikaelson apart.

There are many who want to know how The Vampire Diaries will tackle the introduction of the Heretics, the witch-vampire hybrids. They come across as indestructible, but that is never the case for the show writers. If Caroline was ever in trouble, many fans suspect that Klaus would find out about it and make sure he took care of those truly threatening her. If she ever died, he would definitely turn up for revenge considering the connection the two shared.

It looks like the executive producers are even discussing whether a real crossover episode or two could work. Caroline Dries, executive producer of The Vampire Diaries, admitted that the two teams have been discussing their options. With the mythology the same in the two shows, it certainly makes it easier than with some TV shows out there.

Michael Narducci, executive producer of The Originals, has concerns though. Season seven of the parent show has spent a lot of time flashing forward. They are three years into the future, on the run from a vampire huntress. Meanwhile, Klaus and his family have found themselves focused more in the past, as has been the case with the last two seasons. The two differing paths seem to make it a little too hard for the shows to join together for a crossover, according to Fashion & Style magazine.

There is another character who could make a comeback to the vampire show. Steven R. McQueen, who played Jeremy Gilbert on the show, says that he would not mind making a return. He did appear in the season finale of The Vampire Diaries last year to say goodbye to his sister, but he is now back hunting vampires. It is possible that he will make a return due to the vampire huntress after the Salvatore brothers and their friends. After all, many were Jeremy’s friends, too.

WetPaint suggests that Jeremy could return on the other side instead. He could team up with the vampire huntress to get rid of all vampires in the world, including his friends. He no longer has to worry about his sister, since she took the cure and is now human again. His father figure was also turned human during season six.

McQueen says that he would be happy to return because the people on the show are like his family. He joined the cast when he was 19, and they helped him grow and learn as an actor.

As for the other character fans want to see return to The Vampire Diaries, it looks like it is not going to happen. Elena Gilbert will remain in a peaceful sleep for the foreseeable, as actress Nina Dobrev has plenty of other projects to keep her going. That does not stop other fan favorites from returning, and The Vampire Diaries could see a full crossover with The Originals for Klaus to return and kill the Heretics.
