Blue Bloods season 5 ended in quite the dramatic way last spring, with one of the Reagans’ lives in danger following a shooting, and just because she survived doesn’t mean that when season 6 begins, it will be completely behind Linda.
In the Blue Bloods season finale, Linda was shot at the hospital, and her shooter, Curtis, eventually gave up Warrior Kings’ Mario Hunt to Danny, who was responsible for killing Deputy Chief Donald Kent and his wife, a case that led to disagreement between Danny and Erin. By the end of the episode, Linda wasn’t completely out of the woods, and in fact, she couldn’t be physically present at Sunday dinner since she was still recovering from being shot.
Now, spoilers from TV Guide reveal that she’s still going to be recovering from being shot as the show dives into Danny and Linda’s relationship more, as part of looking at the show’s relationships, according to executive producer Kevin Wade.
“The most important [part] of the show for us is the family and relationships, and we want to get deeper into those every passing year. The crime stories are secondary.”
The cases may take a back seat to the family’s stories, but thanks to episode descriptions from CBS and some casting news for later this fall, fans already have an idea of what to expect on the job in Blue Bloods season 6. First up, in the premiere, “Worst Case Scenario,” it’s just that for New York City. After a terrorist attack in the Middle East, Frank is on high alert when a threat to the city may be imminent.
The following episode, “Absolute Power,” features guest star Mary Stuart Masterson as a mayoral candidate who accuses Frank of secretly investigating her husband. Also in that hour, Erin considers applying for a judgeship, while Danny and Baez investigate a possible serial killer who sends him a chilling message. Plus, Eddie faces her estranged father when he ends up in the hospital. Speaking of Eddie, TV Guide also reports that the season will explore her partnership with Jamie.
Finally, Yahoo! TV has reported that ER‘s Anthony Edwards will be guest starring in an episode that is slated for November, and the details about his character also reveal the case Danny and Baez will be working on in that episode.
“He’ll play Owen Cairo, a stolid, square man whose life is turned upside down when his prized possession, the 1968 Mustang allegedly driven by Steve McQueen in the movie Bullitt, goes missing. He sends Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Baez (Marisa Ramirez) on the trail of the beautiful young wife he suspects arranged for the theft – and the race is on to both recover the car and uncover the motives that led to its disappearance.”
EP Wade called Edwards their “first choice” for the role, explaining, “he’s a terrific actor with an innate talent for drawing empathy and relatability from the audience.”
Blue Bloods season 6 premieres Friday, September 25, at 10 p.m. on CBS.
