Boyfriend Impersonated His Girlfriend For Two Weeks After He Murdered Her

A man pretended to be his girlfriend for two weeks after he murdered her after she tried to break up with him. He allegedly killed her in a fit of anger. In a carefully thought-out plan, he studied her texts and how she wrote so that he could imitate them and trick others, such as her sister, into thinking she was alive. The 24-year-old known only as Mr. Lee, under South Korean law, confessed to killing Sunny Kim, 26, on May 18. This was two weeks after she disappeared, according to METRO.

Using Kim’s previous correspondence, Lee replied to texts. He mimicked Kim’s texts so well that he even fooled her sister, who stated that “[t]he way that he text[ed] me was how would my sister would text.”

Kim accepted a new job on the day she was killed. Later that day Lee, pretending to be Kim, declined the offer. He told the new employer that he was Kim and that she had decided to return to the United States to study. From the time she was 14-years-old, Kim had studied abroad in the United States. She attended Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia and then later the State University of New York, Albany, where she studied economics. She had many friends in the United States, with whom she had kept in touch through Facebook when she returned to South Korea to work as a professor, according to BuzzFeed News.

Lee had a history of violence towards Kim, and her sister said that when things didn’t go Lee’s way, he badly beat her. Lee turned himself into Busan police. He entered with his wrists cut and bleeding and told officers the following, according to METRO.

“I killed my girlfriend and buried the body. I also tried to kill myself.”

Two days later, Sunny was found in a suitcase buried under cement in the hills near her home. The police said that her body was “badly damaged.” Lee was later released and is due to appear in court at a later date.

Kim’s mother stated the following, according to BuzzFeed News.

“As long as I live, I will never forgive you. You don’t even deserve to be judged by law. You’re not even a human being. She had told me that she finally got a great job back in Korea, and everyone was dying to see her. I never imagined I would see her body like this.”

Friends even set up a GoFundMe page for her family. What type of penalty should an abusive murderer like Lee face? Please leave your comments below.
