Want To Model? You Need 10,000 Instagram Followers, Say Big Brands

Remember when modeling used to be about baby bottoms?

It used to do the trick, but now, you need a strong following on Instagram to even be considered for a job as a supermodel, according to big modeling agencies.

For the longest time, modeling has been solely about looks, however, since the rise of social media, big named brands are now looking for women who have large amounts of Instagram followers.

As the Daily Mail reported on Saturday, beauty alone won’t make the cut anymore. But make no mistake, this doesn’t mean you need to be the next Kim Kardashian or Kendall Jenner.

Daily Mail spoke with Catherine McGill, the manager of Vivien Models, where she elaborated on how social media is influencing modeling portfolios. These big modeling agencies now look at stronger social presence as marketing potential.

So, if you are equipped with at least 10,000 Instagram followers, then big agencies will consider you for big money jobs. Also, in addition to the followers, big brands are now pushing models to do some posting on social media to promote the products and brands one represents.

This means, the more followers you have the bigger chance you have at being a supermodel.

As with most jobs in today’s culture, having a strong Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram following is the way to go for bigger opportunities. It’s simple, more Instagram followers equals more open doors. Likewise, cheating is also something that modeling agencies may have to consider when reviewing job applications.

The sketchy practice of buying fake Instagram followers first made the media spotlight after a huge crackdown in December of 2014.

According to the International Business Times, fake Instagram account sellers gives users the opportunity to buy fake Instagram followers for only a few bucks and subsequently cheat the system.

But in December of last year, chaos began to induce users, as millions of Instagram followers from users like Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande started to disappear.

This is a perfect example as to why countless amounts of media outlets have warned users to stay away from such shady services.

So with that being said, is a bit of skill and looks currently being overlooked due to 10,000 measly Instagram followers?

Well, unless you’ve got both the looks and the Instagram followers — like Kim Kardashian — you might want to sit down and learn some secrets from the Instagram queen herself.

A few months ago, as the Inquisitr reported, Kim unveiled secrets on how to gain more Instagram followers during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Kim is labeled by the media as the queen of Instagram, having close to 33 million followers.

Kim, along with her sisters, do more than just negotiate Instagram posts, they promote huge products for some of the world’s biggest brands.

And like almost every young woman’s dream is to be like Kim, it will now be harder for new aspiring models entering the industry, 10,000 times more harder.
