Grey’s Anatomy Shocker: Actor Exits Show After Character’s Death (Spoiler)
The shocking Grey’s Anatomy death on Thursday’s all new episode still has everyone talking. One of the show’s most iconic characters met their untimely and unexpected end as fans of the show bid farewell to one of their favorite actors.
Derek Shepherd, an original cast member, beloved character, and main player in the show was killed off, meaning actor Patrick Dempsey, who portrayed the beloved Dr. McDreamy, has exited the show for good.
According to Us Weekly, the Grey’s Anatomy death wasn’t as shocking to some fans as it should have been thanks to an early release of Entertinament Weekly Magazine. The new issues was sent to some subscribers in the mail and covered the huge story that Patrick Dempsey’s Dr. Derek Shepherd had been killed off the show before the episode had even aired.
During the episode which was titled “How To Save A Life,” following the Fray song that has been the show’s unofficial anthem since it’s release, Derek was busy doing his doctoring in an unconventional situation when he was killed. However, the biggest question is why did Patrick Dempsey get killed off the show?
Some sources are claiming that Patrick and the show’s creator/writer Shonda Rhimes were clashing, leading to his departure. Rumor has it that after the mess Shonda went through with former Grey’s Anatomy actress Katherine Heigl, whose character, Izzy Stevens, also met her death on the show, as well as actor Isaiah Washington, who was fired, Rhimes had enough of egos on the set and decided to let Dempsey go.
“Patrick has been acting like a diva and has clashed with [creator Shonda Rhimes]. She suspended him for a while, and the word on set is that he isn’t coming back full time. Given all the past problems with Katherine Heigl and Isaiah Washington, there is little tolerance on the show for troublesome talent.”
Hollywood Life reports that Rhimes released a statement about the shocking Grey’s Anatomy death of Dr. Derek Shepherd after the episode aired.
“After 11 seasons on Grey’s Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey is moving on to pursue other interests. Dr. Derek Shepherd is an iconic character and we’ve been proud to be the home of ‘McDreamy’ and the ‘Mer/Der’ love story. The devotion of Grey’s fans throughout the years has been a testament to the creative mind of Shonda Rhimes and Dempsey’s talent. ‘McDreamy’ will be greatly missed and we wish Patrick the very best in his future endeavors.”

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, fans are outraged at Derek Shepherd’s death and are very torn up about seeing Patrick Dempsey leave the show. Of course, they’ve taken to their social media accounts, namely Twitter, to mourn the loss of a huge television character, one that shaped Shonda Rhimes entire career.
