Cristie Codd Remains: Body Parts Of ‘Food Network Star’ Chef, Spouse Possibly Found At Suspect’s Home

North Carolina investigators say a suspect in the murders of Food Network Star contestant, Cristie Codd, her husband and unborn child, has confessed that the remains of the victims were destroyed in a heinous manner. The news on Friday was chilling, but authorities have stopped short of revealing a motive in the Codds’ deaths, according to information sourced from USA Today.

In a news conference on Friday afternoon, Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan provided the latest news in the triple homicide investigation. Acting on information from the suspect, Robert Jason Owens, Duncan said investigators were led to his home where they found what appeared to be human remains. Apparently, Owens admitted to killing Cristie’s husband by running him over with a pickup truck. However, it is not clear how he allegedly killed Codd, who was pregnant at the time of her death.

Deputies obtained a search warrant and removed a number of things from the Leicester residence that are believed to be essential in the investigation. A tip led them to a dumpster where Owens was seen discarding bags of garbage. Police found items believed to belong to the Codds: a handgun, laptop computer and jewelry, all valued at about $1,500.

Sources say robbery appears to be part of a motive. Additionally, the suspect, who is described as a “neighbor,” was hired to perform renovation on the couple’s home in the past. The full extent of his relationship to Cristie and Joseph is unknown.

It’s believed that Schoen Codd and her husband were killed three days before family members became worried and filed a missing persons report. The breaking and entering of their residence was discovered last Sunday, when officers arrived to perform a wellness check. At the time, two of the family dogs were found unattended. The wallet and purse of the husband and wife, who wed last September, were left behind. Additionally, three vehicles were parked on the premises.

Before she starred on the cooking show, Cristie was a caterer for films in Hollywood.

Julie Helton, a well-known television producer, was shocked by the news. She released a statement and spoke fondly about Codd.

“She was an amazing, amazing, lovely woman. She was a phenomenal cook, and she always invited people over to have dinner and taste some good Southern food. She made some of the most amazing birthday cakes, and her laugh was contagious. Just the two of them together were just so happy and loving. They were just amazing friends.”

Multiple reports have revealed that Cristie Codd and her husband’s remains may have already been found. However, a thorough process of identification including fingerprints, dental records and tissue samples for DNA will be used to make positive IDs. 38-year-old Cristie Schoen Codd was a finalist in season eight of Food Network Star.
