Thomas Gilbert: Wainscott Hedge Fund Giant Shot Dead By Own Son In New York

Thomas Gilbert, founder of Wainscott Capital Partners Fund, was shot and killed in his lavish East Side, New York Apartment on Sunday. According to The New York Daily News, he was allegedly gunned down by his own son, Thomas Gilbert, Jr., after the two had a disagreement.

New York City police officers were dispatched to the scene by a female phone caller, identified as the mother of Thomas Gilbert’s son. When NYPD law enforcement officials arrived at the crime scene located at 20 Beekman Place, near E. 50th St. in Manhattan, they found the body of an elderly male with a gunshot wound to the head. The man was identified as 70-year-old Thomas Gilbert, Sr. Police arrived at the scene around 3:30 p.m, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Now, police are looking for Gilbert’s son, who is said to be on the run. A porter of the luxury, multimillion dollar apartment complex stated that he had seen Thomas Gilbert’s son earlier in the day, and that everything seemed normal.

Hedge fund giant Thomas Gilbert co-founded Synzgy Therapeutics before founding Wainscott Capital Partners in 2011, and had amassed over 40 years of investment expertise and experience on Wall street. The successful investment management company focuses on healthcare and biotech investment opportunities. The office headquarters is located at 800 3rd Avenue 22nd Floor in New York. Gilbert also worked as senior adviser to Brooks Houghton Securities, Inc., and is the founder of Knowledge Delivery Systems.

A neighbor, Dick Fulmer, told New York Daily News that the upper class building is a peaceful place and is seldom a place where crimes are committed.

“It’s a pretty peaceful neighborhood frankly. People who live here tend to be higher, upper income. And you have a building with doorman security. Crime is minimal.”

Another unidentified neighbor stated,

“It’s horrible. It’s a quiet Sunday. All of a sudden police started running in. It’s just horrible whatever happened.”

Sources say, Thomas Gilbert’s 30-year-old son, Thomas Gilbert, Jr., aka Tommy Gilbert, had a problematic relationship with his father. Background records show that Thomas Gilbert is also known as Thomas Strong Gilbert Sr., and he went by the name Tom Gilbert. He leaves behind a wife, Shelley Rea Gilbert, whom he married in 1981.
