Tiger Woods is bad at tipping — at least that’s how Rick Reilly feels. According to NESN , Reilly previously sat down with Conan O’Brien and discussed the pro golfer and his not-so-great qualities . Apparently Woods is a bad tipper — so if you’re a waiter or a valet driver and you have Woods’ meal or his car, don’t expect him to give you a nice pocket donation. It actually sounds like Reilly was calling Woods cheap — in general. For a guy who has made millions upon millions of dollars, it’s a little surprising to hear that he’s that tight with his money.
Reilly explained:
“You need a court order to get Tiger’s wallet open. It’s unbelievable.”
Tiger Woods’ poor tipping habits were frowned upon by Reilly, but he gave props to another golfer who makes up for Tiger’s penny-pinching ways. Reilly sang Phil Mickelson’s praises. Apparently Mickelson has been credited with giving umbrellas to homeless people when it rains. He also opens his wallet wide for children running lemonade stands.
According to Sports Glory Reilly said:
“[Tiger is] always like, ‘I don’t carry cash.’ I know a valet here in town that stands between Tiger and his car just to get his $2. He’s really terrible. I’ve seen Phil Mickelson buy a 50-cent cup of a lemonade from a little girl and give her $100. When he leaves the Masters each year, he gives the guys $2,500. Tiger gives them nothing. I was with Phil once, and it was raining. He sees a homeless guy, and he gets out, parks his car and gets out his umbrella to give to the guy. Tiger would charge the guy!”
Naturally Tiger Woods’ tipping — or lack there of — could be a way for him to save some money, since he had to give so much to his ex-wife, Elin Nordegren. You know that had to sting. Woods, like hundreds of other rich people, is very frugal with his money — and that’s fine… but at what point does being frugal translate into being cheap? It sounds like Tiger just doesn’t care too much about supporting the next guy, unfortunately.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Woods has been called “cheap ” in the past. Former NBA star Charles Barkley called out Woods as well as Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan. They are the “cheapest” guys Barkley knows.
In 2011, Tiger Woods topped the list of “ worst celebrity tippers ” according to SF Gate. Are you surprised?
