Crytek Denies New Xbox Rumors

Earlier this week, an interesting rumor popped up on the internets. As the rumor had it, Crytek was in possession of a dev kit for the ‘next Xbox‘. The rumor went on to say that Microsoft could even announce it come E3 2012. If that rumor got you all excited, sorry — it’s bogus.

Crytek addressed the rumors in a statement to IGN earlier today, and the statement is pretty clear that Crytek do not have any next generation hardware. Instead, the statement outlines the developer’s focus to push current hardware to its very limits, particularly with DirectX 11 tech. Here’s Crytek’s official statement, courtesy of IGN:

Relating to the recent rumours, Crytek do not have any next generation hardware from Microsoft, nor do we know when Microsoft may announce future hardware or what that hardware will entail.

Crytek are working at pushing the boundaries of what current technology can bring, including our focus on DX11 which will be released shortly as an update for Crysis 2, and we believe this work, added to our estimations of what the new hardware will provide, set up CryENGINE as a next generation engine for all consoles.
