Ryan Reynolds: Green Lantern Role In ‘Batman VS Superman’ Taken By Denzel Washington?

Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern role in Batman VS Superman might be taken by Denzel Washington.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Ryan Reynolds and Black Lively were “worried” about bankrupting themselves over a Christmas gift.

Denzel Washington turned down a role in Fast And Furious 7, only to have Kurt Russell take the driver’s seat. But Washington was also rumored to be taking the role of Lex Luthor in Batman VS Superman. While some people might think this rumor unlikely since Luthor is always a white guy, it’s not like the comic book movies haven’t done it before. For example, Michael Clarke Duncan did a good job as a black Kingpin, even though the comic book villain Wilson Fisk is white.

But now, the latest Batman VS Superman rumors claim Denzel Washington will be the Green Lantern, supplanting Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. And this time the rumors actually make some sort of sense based upon the comics. In the Green Lantern movie, Reynolds played the role of the Hal Jordan version of Green Lantern. So Denzel would be taking the role of the John Stewart version of Green Lantern, who happens to be black.

The other reason this rumor makes sense is because Reynolds flat out said he had “very little interest” in becoming the Green Lantern again:

“[The Green Lantern movie showed me] how difficult it is to make that concept palatable, and how confused it all can be when you don’t really know exactly where you’re going with it or you don’t really know how to access that world properly—that world comic book fans have been accessing for decades and falling in love with.”

Of course, at the time he was talking about the possibility of a Justice League movie, so it’s possible Ryan Reynolds could change his mind for Batman VS Superman.
