Orlando Bloom Says Full Frontal Nudity Is ‘Empowering’

Orlando Bloom is most known for his Lord of The Rings cult following for his portrayal of Legolas. Although he’s given a handful of terrific performances as his character, there’s something that he was never able to do as Legolas, and that’s going nude.

Bloom, who’s currently on Broadway performing Romeo and Juliet, opened up on the one experience that made strutting his stuff in the buff “empowering.” In an interview with Elle for their January issue, Bloom said of being nude for crime film Zulu:

“I got in the best shape of my life for that movie. It was quite amusing walking around set and seeing the crew avert their eyes at first. Then there were a few more people watching playback. (Laughs) I got so comfortable with it I could brush up behind someone and go, ‘Oh, excuse me.'”

It seems like Orlando Bloom can simply own a room of fan girls with one look, but when asked if being naked was empowering, Bloom humored Elle with a simple response:

“It was. Dude, it is what it is. It’s flesh and bone. It’s what we all are.”

Though according to the actor, it isn’t always so great when portraying a popular character. Another franchise the actor starred in was the Pirates of the Caribbean, and apparently playing a pirate might have left a misguided impression on his fans. Bloom elaborated on his feelings:

“I’m sure I was a great disappointment to many women because I wasn’t Errol Flynn. I’m me. I think that’s got some merit.”

Last we heard from Orlando Bloom, he split from his wife Miranda Kerr. A few weeks ago, reports claimed that Bloom was dating his Lord of The Rings co-star Liv Tyler, and the pair was allegedly spotted cozying up to each other backstage at the opening night of Waiting for Godot. So far, Bloom’s rep has yet to comment.

As for the crime film Zulu, which features a nude Orlando Bloom, those who live in the US will have to wait a bit. Currently there doesn’t seem to be a release date in the United States.
