T-Mobile Begins Selling Garminfone, Yawn…

T-Mobile today began selling the Garminfone, a Google Android based device with Garmin map technology. The cost? $199 after a $50 mail-in rebate. At that price perhaps the only people who will be attracted to the phone are those looking for a nice car phone dock.

The device features an HVGA display, offers a 3 megapixel camera and basically falls short of every other front when compared to the myTouch 3G Slide which can be grabbed for less money.

I’m not going to pretend that some people won’t love this device, but perhaps a $149 or even a $99 price tag would help push sales, the thing doesn’t even have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Furthermore, free turn-by-turn directions are already available for Android devices via Google Maps and they cover the U.S., Canada and as of today various other countries around the world

Garmin, at least give us a Froyo update to make the paid of dishing out $249 up-front a bit less stressful.
