‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’ Gets Co-Op Survival Mode, Two New Multiplayer Maps

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is arguably the best game that’s been released all year. It looks incredible, the gameplay is fantastic, but if there’s been one complaint from fans of the game, it’s been the lack of online modes, which has forced most of its players to move onto other games.

Over the last few months, the Naughty Dog team has been focused on adding new modes to Uncharted 4’s multiplayer. They’ve temporarily added a Classic Mode, which fans have been calling for since the game was released back in May, and they added a mode called Bounty Hunter, which is essentially the Kill Confirmed mode from the Call of Duty series.

On Monday, Naughty Dog announced that a Co-Op Survival mode — which is another mode that fans have been calling for since the release of the game — will be made available next month, and it will be shown off at the PlayStation Experience [PSX] event on December 3.

In the mode, which is detailed on the official Naughty Dog blog, players will face 50 waves of enemies, with a boss fight happening every 10 waves. There will be an in-game store, so players will be able to upgrade their weapons, purchase sidekicks, and purchase mysticals, just like in the regular online modes. Players will also have to option to play the mode solo [with an AI teammate], or with up to two additional players.

Naughty Dog game designer Vinit Agarwal said the following about the new Co-Op Survival mode in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

“We’ve built upon and evolved the core gameplay experience with an entirely new level of depth, challenge, and variety. From new enemy types and powerful new bosses to a dedicated progression system and expansive upgradable arsenal, Survival is all about strategy, camaraderie, and skill.”

Naughty Dog hasn’t announced a release date for the Co-Op mode, but they probably will announce it at the PlayStation Experience event next month.

In both Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, there were several different Co-Op modes, including a story-based one called Co-Op Adventure. As of right now, it’s unclear if the Naughty Dog team will be adding any additional Co-Op modes, or any other modes. In fact, this could very well be one of the final pieces of multiplayer DLC that becomes available for the game.

So far, all of the major reviewers that have gotten early access to the Co-Op Survival mode have been giving it rave reviews. In fact, if you want to check out what it looks like, the folks over at IGN have already given it a full review, and have provided some gameplay footage.

Co-Op may not be the only thing that Naughty Dog decides to show off at PlayStation Experience, as there is a rumor going around that they’ll show a trailer for the highly-anticipated single player DLC, which Troy Baker — who is the voice actor of Sam Drake — says will be much longer than The Last of Us: Left Behind.

There’s been some speculation that the single player DLC will be focused on Sam and Sully’s first adventure together, but, according to a gaming industry insider who goes by the name Shinobi602, the DLC won’t focus on Sam at all.

On top of adding a Co-Op Survival mode, the Naughty Dog team has added two additional maps — one based on the Panamanian prison from Uncharted 4’s main story, and one that’s a classic map from Uncharted 2 called Train Wreck. Earlier this year, they added another map from Uncharted 2 called The Village, which is widely considered to be the best multiplayer map in the series’ history.
