Florida Man Arrested For Domestic Battery With Ramen Noodles
A central Florida man got into hot water with the law when he allegedly threw a cup of ramen noodles at his live-in boyfriend.
The incident occurred in Pinellas Park, Florida, early Friday morning, according to authorities.
Based on the arrest affidavit posted at The Smoking Gun, a verbal argument occurred at the home “in regards to questions of infidelity.”
Apparently things escalated from there and allegedly turned into a ramen ruckus.
“The 12:30 AM dispute in the couple’s Pinellas Park home turned violent when [the suspect] threw a cup of ramen noodles at the victim, who was struck in the neck by the noodles. [The suspect] cops noted, said that ‘water was thrown on him” prior to his noodle tossing.'”
After officers concluded that he was the primary aggressor, the suspect, who apparently has a prior criminal record, was taken into custody on a charge of misdemeanor domestic battery and was subsequently released on his own recognizance.

Separately, the Inquisitr previously detailed last August that ramen noodles are supposedly replacing things like postage stamps and the classic standby of cigarettes and tobacco as the currency of choice behind bars because prisoners have become increasingly dissatisfied with the in-house cuisine. Ramen noodles are often exchanged for other food, services, and even betting on sports games. “Ramen noodles are cheap to buy and are viewed as a delicious substitute for typical prison food, according to the people interviewed by [the study author],” The Denver Channel explained.
With that in mind, youth offenders apparently went off their noodle in August 2013 during a full-blown riot over ramen. The ramen rage rampage lasted about four hours before police got the situation at Florida’s Avon Park Youth Academy under control.
The brawl started after a pickup basketball game at the all-male youth lockup. According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, “There was a group of kids from Orlando and a group from St. Petersburg, and they had bet three packages of Ramen noodles over the game. The Orlando team won; the St. Pete team wouldn’t pay up.” A fight then broke out at about 8:30 p.m. between the two teams, and others joined in. The 19 staff members on site were overwhelmed, and it took over 150 cops in full-riot gear to take control, and not before the ramen riot caused thousands of dollars in damages to 18 buildings at the correctional facility.
Some years ago, the New York Post reported that ramen noodles is (or was at that time) the most popular commissary food product at the Rikers Island prison in New York City. “Guards supply inmates with hot water for the high-carbohydrate, high-sodium instant meals — which come in shrimp, chili, beef and chicken flavors. Many prisoners toss out the dried noodles and instead use the flavor packets to spice up the otherwise bland jailhouse fare, officials said.”
Various health studies suggest that instant ramen noodles are an unhealthy food choice. Instant ramen noodles are notorious for being nothing more than a food bomb consisting of simple carbohydrates and saturated fat, the Inquisitr previously detailed. South Korea, which is said to have one of the highest levels of ramen noodle consumption, reportedly has experienced a significant incidence of heart disease and diabetes.
A Mumbai, India-based nutritionist tells the Warm Up blog that “Instant noodles and soup have an excess of salt, MSG, added coloring and flavoring agents. In addition, it’s very addictive on the palate and has a very poor nutrient profile. Excess salt leads to bloating and water retention, while MSG has been linked to headaches, dizziness and fatigue short-term.”
