Mark Wahlberg Plays A Cop Once Again In Director Allen Hughes’ ‘Broken City’ [Video]

The Departed co-star Mark Wahlberg, who has made a career out of playing cops, will portray a police officer once again in an upcoming motion picture. Broken City, which is directed by Book of Eli filmmaker Allen Hughes, is described by Cinema Blend as a “modern film noir.” For those who love watching Mark Wahlberg play cops, the film will give you one more opportunity to see the man in action.

In addition to Mark Wahlberg, Broken City also features Russell Crowe as shady politician who hires a seasoned detective to spy on his wife. As a result of the ensuing investigation, a number of fight sequences and car chases promptly ensue. While the plot doesn’t sound too original, Hughes’ gritty visual style might be the glue that holds the production together.

The plot synopsis found at Rotten Tomatoes describes the film as follows:

“An ex-cop-turned-private eye is thrown headfirst into a hotbed of trouble after a mayor hires him to look into his cheating wife. Book of Eli’s Allen Hughes directs from a script by Brian Tucker.”

If you’re tired of seeing Mark Wahlberg portray cops, ex-cops, mercenaries, or soldiers, then you’re pretty much out of luck for a while. Outside of Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain — a film which allows the Contraband star to stretch his legs a bit — the seasoned actor isn’t deviating too far from his comfort zone. In addition to the Denzel Washington thriller 2 Guns, Mark Wahlberg is slated to play a soldier in Lone Survivor and a mercenary in Max Landis’ Good Time Gang.

Russell Crowe, meanwhile, has farmed out his talents to a wide variety of different projects. Not only will Crowe tackle the role of Jor-El in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, he’s also starring as Noah in Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky’s aptly-titled biblical epic Noah.
