‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8: Could Caroline Choose Klaus Over Stefan?

There is no secret that The Vampire Diaries has two strong ships: Klaroline and Steroline. While one of those can’t happen in Season 8 of the show, is it possible that it could happen eventually?

Klaroline fans want more than a brief moment of the two together. They at least need closure if this relationship is never going to happen. Candice King had shared her surprise at this ship, considering Klaus and Caroline never actually had a romantic relationship. Klaus made his feelings for Caroline known, and there was a brief fling in the woods, but that was it. Klaus has seemingly moved on, finding love with the now deceased Cami, and is currently trapped behind Marcel’s wall.

Instead, The Vampire Diaries hints that Caroline and Stefan could get married in the end. There is a June wedding that Caroline has said she has been planning from the start of the show, and it is time to bring it. With this being the final season of The Vampire Diaries, it will connect to the first season continuously, and this is one of the ways to do it.

This will definitely make Steroline fans happy, but what about those Klaroline shippers? With the current timeline, it isn’t possible for Klaus and Caroline to have just a moment where he gives her his blessing or tells her of the “if only” situations in his head.

Parent Herald reports that there is another option for The Vampire Diaries plot. Caroline could decide that she doesn’t want to marry Stefan after all. Now that she knows Klaus is missing, she feels that connection to him growing stronger, and she wants to make sure he is safe. She chooses him and leaves Mystic Falls behind.

It would take her a couple of years to find Hayley to be able to help, but she could appear on The Originals and help to find a cure for the other Mikaelsons so she can have Klaus to herself. With Klaus being more guarded this season, she may then be able to help him open up and trust her.

Alas, all of that is just a possibility and not something Julie Plec is likely to include in The Vampire Diaries Season 8. There may be a couple of characters that move into The Originals, as happened with Angel when Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended, but Caroline will not likely be one of them. It is time for Stefan to get his happy ending, and the Klaroline ship has all but been forgotten on The Vampire Diaries. The last time it was even mentioned was during the crossover, when Stefan was in New Orleans on The Originals.

With the timeline setup in both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, it does make it much harder to even bring closure to the couple. The only option would be to have flash-forwards again, but fans may not like those when the last season is only going to be 16 episodes long. Plec has also recently said that not having the two shows on at the same time makes things a lot easier for them. They have more freedom, especially since The Originals possibly isn’t finishing this season.

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 will premiere on Friday, Oct 21, 2016 on the CW. The Originals won’t follow until January 2017, giving little chance for crossover events between the two.
