Hillary Clinton Administration Wants To Legalize Illegal Immigrants In ‘First 100 Days’ Of Office, According To Tim Kaine

Democratic nominee for United States president Hillary Clinton plans to introduce a bill that would effectively legalize illegal immigrants in the “first 100 days” of her potential tenure in office, according to Democratic vice presidential candidate United States Senator Tim Kaine. As The Washington Times reports, Kaine told this to Telemundo in an interview yesterday.

Republican nominee for United States president Donald Trump’s view on illegal immigration is exactly the opposite of what Clinton and Kaine hope to achieve. While Clinton and Kaine hope to legalize the over 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States, as Pew Research reported, Trump is hoping to find better ways to deport them. While Democrats routinely refer to them as “undocumented immigrants,” Republicans routinely refer to them as “illegal immigrants.”

As ABC News reports, a few different undocumented immigrants, or illegal immigrants, spoke at the Democratic National Convention last night. While Democrats praised their bravery, Republicans took a different stance. Astrid Silva, a 28-year-old illegal immigrant originally from Mexico, blasted Trump and the Republican Party in her speech. She believes that Trump is attempting to break families up, even though they may be in the country illegally.

“When Donald Trump talks about deporting 11 million people, he’s talking about ripping families apart.”

While she is correct in her stance that families would potentially be “ripped apart,” the United States is still a country of laws, and they are committing a crime. Many illegal immigrants are wonderful people, and their achievements and contributions are helping the United States to become a better country. Regardless, there is still a process in place, and every immigrant who is looking to enter the United States should follow it. Otherwise, a slippery slope is created on what laws should be enforced and what ones should be overlooked.

In addition to Silva’s speech, Karla Ortiz, an 11-year-old child of illegal immigrants, spoke at the Democratic National Convention. As expected, Ortiz bravely shared her fears over the possibility of her parents being deported from the United States.

“I’m scared that at any moment, my mom and my dad will be forced to leave. I wonder, what if I come home and find it empty?”

Since the process of obtaining legal status can take years, a problem is presented for families that are attempting to become legal citizens. While they may have every intention of eventually becoming legal, they are still breaking the law by being in the United States. Simply rounding up every illegal immigrant and deporting them is extreme and unrealistic, but there needs to be a better solution that takes the families into account, as well as ensuring the safety of United States citizens.

As he stated last year, Trump’s plan is to build a wall and deport every illegal immigrant. He has said that the “good ones” would be able to return, but the process of deporting everyone, besides being a pipe dream for Trump, would be extremely costly. Clinton and Kaine’s plan of legalizing every illegal immigrant and effectively opening the border is also probably not the solution.

Representative Luis Gutierrez also spoke at the Democratic National Convention regarding his feelings on immigration, as reported by the Huffington Post.

“No matter what others say, it is simply a fantasy that we’re going to round up and deport 11 million people. It’s a sick, hateful fantasy. But let me tell you what gives me hope: In her heart, Hillary Clinton’s dream for America is one where immigrants are allowed to come out of the shadows, get right with the law, and live without fear of their family being ripped apart.”

With Kaine set to speak on Wednesday and Clinton set to speak on Thursday, it is going to be interesting to see if they discuss the proposal to legalize illegal immigrants. It is going to be even more interesting to see how the crowd reacts to such a proposal and if the Democrats in attendance feel as though it is a good idea.
