Did Amy Schumer Really Mean To Body Shame Taylor Swift With Her Thigh Gap Joke?

After what many assumed was a response to Taylor Swift’s revealing, yet gorgeous, appearance at 2016 Grammy Awards, Amy Schumer responded in the only way the comedian could have – with comedy, reports Entertainment Tonight.

According to Us Magazine, Schumer teased Swift about the red dress she wore to this year’s Grammy Awards held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Swift sported a leg-barring two-piece dress by Atelier Versace that also had a huge slit running all the way up the skirt, allowing plenty of Taylor’s legs to be seen.

In what many thought was a shot at Taylor’s appearance, Schumer uploaded an image on her Instagram that showed her in a bikini on the beach alongside comedian Bridget Everett, with a joke in the caption.

“Taylor that’s not a thigh gap,” Schumer wrote. “This is a thigh gap.”

Of course, the talented singer and songwriter’s fans weren’t too thrilled about Schumer’s Instagram post, with some going as far as to accuse the comedian and actress of body shaming the “Blank Space” singer.

The body shaming accusation, which doesn’t appear to be at all what Schumer was going for, made the Trainwreck star, 34, respond in another Instagram post that is somewhat of an apology, in a sarcastic sort of way.

Schumer’s response, which can be viewed at PopSugar, showed herself with messy hair and yes, fake facial hair attached to her face. “That’s not a beard this is a beard,” the comedian wrote inside the caption. “So sorry to anyone with a beard this may offend. I am a comic and should never make fun of myself at the expense of anyone else that I wasn’t making fun of in the first place. #relax #beard.”

Despite fans uproar over the incident, Taylor didn’t seem to care. As it turns out, the “Out of the Woods” singer had bigger things to keep her mind busy than Amy Schumer’s jokes. Swift walked away from the Grammy’s with her second ever Album of the Year award, and ironically targeted Kanye West during her awards speech after he claimed he “made her famous” on a song off his new album.

“I want to say to all the young women out there — there are going to be people along the way who are going to try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame,” Swift said in response to Kanye’s comments about being the one responsible for Taylor’s fame. “But if you just focus on the work, and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around, and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”

Of course, Kanye didn’t have much to say when asked about Taylor’s awards speech at LAX after the awards show, saying that he only felt “positive” vibes. However, given that the song “Famous,” released February 11, in which Kanye raps “I feel like me and Taylor still might have sex” then adds, “why? I made that b***h famous,” it doesn’t seem like positive vibes. Kanye also claimed reports Daily Mail, that he called her and she was okay with the lyrics. Of course, this isn’t the first time Kanye has showed displeasure with Taylor. In 2009, he interrupted her speech during MTV’s VMA’s when she was accepting the Video of the Year award.

Whatever fans of both sides take in regards to Kanye’s comments about Taylor or Amy Schumer’s Instagram “thigh gap” post, we have no doubt whatsoever that Taylor Swift will do what Taylor Swift does best and simply “Shake It Off” while winning more and more awards.
