Dee Snider Defends Donald Trump: ‘He’s Fighting The System’

You can call Donald Trump a lot of things, but Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider chooses to call the outspoken business magnate a rebel who’s “fighting the system.”

Trump is not everyone’s cup of tea and has the habit of rubbing a fair few folks up the wrong way. The man’s sinister haircut, bright orange aura, and supercilious facial expressions alone could be considered public violations in their own right. But in the land of the free, everyone is entitled to be as obnoxious and as plum dumb crazy as they like — while potentially having a massive say in running the country.

Like all, if not necessarily great, power hungry men, Trump has his critics. He also has his admirers, and Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider is an aficionado of Trump’s fiercely flamboyant and flatulent style.

Snider, who rose to attention in the shock rock scene of the 1980s as a rag-wearing harlot with a penchant for ladies make-up and raw bones, is still twisting it up with the “Sister” as well as being a public figure in his own right.

Although not as bizarre looking as Trump or possessing the same sort of diabolical traits one would expect in a James Bond villain. Snider obviously recognizes in Trump the same sort of demented spark which led him to dress like an insane pantomime dame in the 1980s and shout at an unsuspecting public they’re going to “Burn in Hell.”

Snider’s most instantly recognizable hit is a foot stomping and hormonal little ditty called “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” and unlike more precious and political killjoys such as Neil Young, R.E.M, and Aerosmith, Twisted Sister are happy for Trump to use their 1984 classic to win public minds and hearts with.

In an interview with Canadian Business, where he also enthusiastically describes the late Apple guru Steve Jobs as a “c**k rocker” and “frontman,” Snider explains that Trump is welcome to use the Twisted Sister song to further his own political ambitions because the suited and booted dude is also a cock rocking “rebel.”

“He [Trump] called and he asked, which I appreciated. I said, ‘Look, we don’t see eye to eye on everything—there are definitely issues that we’re far apart on.’ But thinking back to when I wrote the song and what the song is about, it’s about rebellion, speaking your mind and fighting the system. If anybody’s doing that, he sure is. Trump and Bernie Sanders are the two extremes. They’re raising holy hell and shaking everything up. That’s what ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ is about.

“And we’re friends. I have spent time with Donald and his family. I don’t think either of us expected that we would like each other, but you know, Donald Trump is a pretty chill guy. He’s a frontman. When that camera goes on, he furls his brow, he does his thing. Off-camera he’s very self-deprecating. He makes jokes about being too orange and about his hair.”

Calling a billionaire like Trump, who is so deeply ingrained in the system he’s taken root and poisoned the soil, a rebel who is “fighting the system” is not just a bit of an exaggeration, it’s a complete fabrication, but the “slightly racist uncle who vocalizes outmoded views at the dinner table” continues to gain popularity amongst those who hold wealth and power above all things, and also for old rockers who receive royalties for every time Trump blows his own trumpet to the sound of one of their songs.

Keep on rocking in the free world y’all.
