WWE Rumor: Brock Lesnar Vs. Roman Reigns, Triple H Vs. Seth Rollins Set For ‘SummerSlam’?

We’re a little over six weeks away from WWE’s biggest pay-per-view of the summer, SummerSlam, which is scheduled to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on August 23, and there are two big matches that may be taking place at the event. One is Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which would be a rematch from the main-event of this year’s WrestleMania, and the other is Seth Rollins vs. Triple H, which is a match that has been rumored to be taking place at SummerSlam for quite some time.

First, Lesnar vs. Reigns for the WWE Championship. Most people are predicting that Brock Lesnar will defeat Seth Rollins at next Sunday’s Battleground show and regain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Usually, when a champion loses his title, he’s granted an immediate rematch at the next pay-per-view, but it looks like SummerSlam could be the exception to the rule.

In storyline, The Authority brought back Brock Lesnar to challenge Seth Rollins to see if their investment in Rollins will pay off against the biggest and most dominant star in WWE. If Rollins fails to beat Lesnar, which most people believe he will, then it’s possible that Triple H will express his disappointment in Rollins, setting up a match with between the two at SummerSlam, and taking Rollins out of the WWE Championship picture.

With Rollins gone, Lesnar is left without an opponent for SummerSlam, at least that’s what WWE wants you to think.

There have been reports that WWE wants to do a Lesnar vs. Reigns rematch at some point in the future, possibly as early as SummerSlam. There have also been rumors that Reigns will win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Lesnar at the event, which was WWE’s original plan for WrestleMania earlier this year.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer doesn’t believe that WWE will go with Reigns vs. Lesnar at SummerSlam, saying that it’s way too early to have Reigns face Lesnar again and that the fans will resent Reigns even more than they already do if Reigns defeats Lesnar and becomes the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

For what it’s worth, there have also been rumors of WWE waiting until WrestleMania 32 to do the Reigns vs. Lesnar rematch for the WWE Championship, which Reigns would win. So, if that’s the plan, the match at SummerSlam obviously isn’t happening.

Now, Triple H vs. Seth Rollins. Most believe that it’s too early to do that match and that WWE should hold it off until WrestleMania 32. However, the plan is to do Triple H vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 32, and — due to it being The Rock’s match — there’s absolutely no way that plans are being changed. WWE also doesn’t want to do Rollins vs. Triple H at a “B-show,” so if they’re going to do it, SummerSlam is the place and time.

There are issues with a Rollins vs. Triple H match. One is who the babyface will be. Most believe that the fans wouldn’t embrace Rollins as a babyface, and at the same time, you can’t turn Triple H if he’s facing The Rock — who is the biggest babyface in the world — at WrestleMania 32.

Despite the obvious questions, it does seem that WWE is going to do Triple H vs. Seth Rollins at SummerSlam. There’s a belief within WWE that a Rollins vs. Triple H feud would help boost falling ratings, and that WWE fans would subscribe to the WWE Network to see Triple H return to the ring, as it’s a rare thing these days. But that remains to be seen.
