Two months ago, supermodel Heidi Klum (pictured above with Sandra Bullock) and musician Seal announced that after nearly seven years of marriage, that they would be separating.
During their marriage, the couple became parents to three children- sons Johan and Henry, and daughter Lou- and back in 2009, Seal formally adopted Klum’s daughter from a previous relationship, Leni. Each year, Seal and Klum celebrated their anniversary by renewing their wedding vows in the presence of friends and family, but on January 22nd of this year, the couple acknowledged they were separating.
At the time, Seal expressed surprise that the marriage had taken a turn towards dissolution, telling Ellen DeGeneres on her chat show that the couple took their vows very seriously:
“I think we were shocked… You go into these things with the greatest intentions when you say ‘I do’ and you say ”Till death do us part.’ Those vows hold value. They are not just words. These things happen.”
The separation was addressed in a joint statement from Klum and Seal at the end of January, in which the couple requested privacy as they navigated the waters of divorce. Through a rep, the pair said:
“While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate. We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart.”
The statement continued:
“This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition. We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children’s sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy.”
The formal divorce filing occurred in Los Angeles Superior Court on April 6th.
